DCSRA WELCOMES DON LAWS… A TRAINED POLITICAL JUNKIE! Are you ready for something different? How about a provocative, entertaining, insightful, humorous tour of the current political landscape? As our featured speaker Don Laws will also challenge conventional wisdom, especially our own. Political scientist Don Laws retired as instructional dean at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon about six years ago but his passion for all things political has kept him busy with adult education in Arizona. Recently Don concluded leading a popular OLLI Advanced Civics Study Group. The group looked at current events, cartoons, editorials and newspaper clippings, then evaluated them in terms of political platforms, conservative and liberal ideology, historical context and the symbols and jargon used by both political parties. A good time was had by all. Don will discuss the political landscape with us and explore our political views. You can help with this discussion by taking your own political survey and learn more about your individual political ideology. The web site for this professional political survey is http://www.politicalcompass.org/test. Take the survey, which deals with the economic and social dimensions of politics. At the conclusion you may print a personal results graph. Let’s learn a little and have lots of fun as Don helps us navigate the political mine fields. What will it take for the other folks (Republicans) to be a factor in 2012?
