LESSON PLAN Unit: Dance Lesson Focus: Line Dance Technology Used: Music Sequence: Day 2
Date: 3/25 & 3/26 Grade: Freshman Girls PE
Standard: S1.H3., S2.H4. Facility/Equipment: Gym Music
Lesson Intro (What will you say to get the students’ attention, communicate the lesson objectives, and motivate students to achieve them?): To continue our dance unit today, we are going to be doing some line dancing. You probably have done some or all of these before, but we will have fun with it! These dances we will do will help you learn the basics of counting and also help you learn some basic steps you can put into your routines when we start choreographing in a few days. So, lets all spread out and get started! Learning Objectives
Assessment
Each objective should include: a) Performance (the knowledge or ability the learner will gain as a result of this lesson), b) Conditions (under which the learner will perform, and c) Criterion (the level of performance considered acceptable):
For each objective include your procedure for determining whether objectives have been met:
1. Students should be able to follow along and pick up on the choreography and eventually perform the steps repeatedly to the music 2. Students should begin to understand how to count music and routine steps
1. informal observation
2. informal observation
Safety considerations and/or modifications for special needs students: -Students should be aware of their surroundings and be in their own personal space to avoid injuring themselves or a
classmate when performing the dance moves

Repeat Electric Slide to Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars (see attached)
We are going to repeat Footloose because it is the most difficult. Do we need to go over the steps once? Great! Lets now do the electric slide to a new song so you can see how dances to songs with the same tempo work as well.
Closure (What will you say and do to help students recall the lesson objectives and recognize what they’ve learned? How will you meet one or more of the following goals: review, accountability, cool-down, recognition, interpersonal communication, future plans?): Great job picking up on each of the dances today! I know it was a lot, but it is good practice of steps and counting music. It also gave you examples of moves you can use in your dance that you will start choreographing in a few days! Next class, you will learn basic dance terminology, practice some basic dance technique and steps, and lastly, you will learn a basic Hip-Hop combination I came up with!
Reflective Comments (to be completed after the lesson): After the class learns all of the routines, I am going to have the students repeat Footloose because it is the most difficult routine that was learned and could use as much practice as possible. I then will explain that you can use the steps to a original routine to the tune of a different song if it has the same tempo of the original song. In this case, I will have the class do the movements of the Electric Slide to the song Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars.
