CSR is about how companies manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to operating a business in a manner that accounts for the social and environmental impact created by the business. CSR means a commitment to developing policies that integrate responsible practices into daily business operations, and to reporting on progress made toward implementing these practices.

Common CSR policies related to Environment protection includes: ¤ Adoption of operating policies that exceed compliance with social and environmental laws; ¤ Advanced resource productivity, focused on the use of natural resources in a more productive, efficient and profitable fashion (such as recycled content and product recycling)

 Contribution to greenhouse gas emissions through energy use and other parts of your process  Use of raw materials, both nonrenewable resources which by definition are not sustainable in the long term, and as importantly renewable resources which are produced in a fashion which is not currently sustainable.  Potential for environmental accidents releases of pollutants into air, water or land.

 Electronic waste is the fastest growing component of our waste stream, growing nearly three times faster than municipal waste.  Contain significant levels of toxic compounds including lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium.  Computers are currently not recycled or even disposed of properly.  Growing hazard as toxic elements can seep into groundwater or expose workers.  Apple, Dell & Hewlett-Packard have implemented computer recycling programs.

 The genetic engineering of food is a relatively new and untested technology.  Risks of GE Foods  Public Health Risks o Allergic Reactions o Increased Resistance to Antibiotics o Cancer Risks o Toxic Reactions o Reduced Nutritional Value  Environmental Risks o Increased Herbicide Use o Increased Pesticide Residue & Damage to Soil & Beneficial Insects o Genetic Pollution and the Creation of "Superweeds“ o Threat to World's Food Supply

 Over 200 billion beverage containers were sold & over 130 billion of those containers ended up in landfills or were incinerated.  Plastic debris in oceans is the principal cause of death of more than a million seabirds and 100,000 mammals and turtles per year.  If all of the beverage containers that were wasted last year had been recycled, 15.6 million metric tons of greenhouse gases would have been avoided.  Making containers from recycled content uses significantly less energy and fossil fuels in their production than using virgin materials: recycled aluminum uses 95% less energy, recycled plastic uses 30% less energy, and recycled glass uses 35% less

 The world's remaining forests house over 50% of the earth's biodiversity.  Increased rates of forest loss, particularly in biodiversity rich areas, have reached crisis proportions.  Clear cutting of forests destroys ecosystems, degrades water quality, facilitates erosion, and contributes to species extinction.  Find and promote ways to use wood more efficiently.  Promote and support alternatives to wood products.

 Most paper is manufactured from pulp from virgin forests.  Paper production contributes to significant air & water pollution.  Using 6 tons of recycled paper saves at least 50 trees.

 Air and water pollution threaten to cause very serious heavy metal contamination problems.  Herbal remedies and dietary supplements to check for heavy metals .  Bronze and brass components of drinking water systems come into contact with and leach lead into drinking water.  Fish and shellfish are considered part of a healthy diet. However, mercury levels in seafood is on the rise worldwide.  Presence of carcinogens Toulene and Formaldehyde in nail care products.
