• Texas Higher Education College Board (THECB) created vertical teams (VT) to create the College Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) comprised of secondary and postsecondary faculties. VT – “specified knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in entry-level community college and university courses” (TCCRS, 2008, p3). Standards connect HS standards: Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) • Texas Success Initiative (TSI) – functions as a mechanism to help students who do not meet CCRS standards • P-16 Alignment though the development of region councils “to foster systemic change in how educational institutions and communities work together to promote implementation of the postsecondary readiness standards and to create and sustain a college-going culture” (Closing the Gaps, p. 20) • Recommended High School Program –HS curriculum aligned with college expectations 1
