For things that happened in the past but before something else in the past (past simple)
Example: I had brushed my teeth, before I went to bed

For reguler verbs
Positive (+): Subjek + had + past participle/V3 (verb + ed) Example: He had cleared the table
For ireguler verbs
Positive (+): Subjek + had + past participle/V3 (unique past perfect form) Example: She had bought some flowers at the market (to buy)
Negative (-): Subjek + had + not + past participle/V3 (verb + ed) Example: He hadn’t cleared the table
Negative (-): Subjek + had + not + past participle/V3 (unique past perfect form) Example: She hadn’t bought some flowers at the market (to buy)
Interogative (?): had + Subjek + past participle/V3? (verb + ed) Example: had you cleared the table?

In the past perfect tense sentence, the adverb of time often used is Before, After, By the time, By
