MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT 22, 2009
SEPTEMBER
A SELF-MANAGED COOPERATIVE
SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE CALLED AND ASKED ABOUT THE SEPTEMBER 15TH NYC COUNCIL PRIMARY ELECTION,
Providing information to our residents about matters that impact our community is important, which is why we sent out a letter the day before the election asking you to vote.
THAT liVE DECIDED TO RESPOND WITH THIS LETTER.
By now, most of you have heard that I finished 2nd in a 3-way race in the Democratic Primary for City Council. Although I was able to generate a 25% voter turnout in Glen Oaks as compared to a 10% citywide total, it was not large enough to win against an incumbent. I am grateful to the 660 out of the 2,600 eligible Glen Oaks voters who came out to vote, but it was a disappointment. Had a larger % materialized, the outcome may have been very different. UNFORTUNATELY, 3 OUT OF 4 ELIGIBLE . ,.'

.VOTERS CHOSE TO STAY HOME RATHER THAN GO TO THE POLLS on a beautiful day, which is a sad
commentary on the times. THE GOODNEWS

OVER!
I
WILL BE ON THE BALLOT IN THE
NOVEMPER 3RD GENERAL ELECTION FOR CITY COUNCIL. That election, which is also a Mayoral one,
is open to ALLvoters of every party. Like former Democratic Mayor Ed Koch, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown and others, I am a Democrat who will appear on the ballot with the cross-endorsement of the Republicans. Please take an interest and vote this time around.
WHY THIS MA TTERS TO YOU: FOR

SERIOUS BUSINESS.
As the only candidate of the three who has had an enormous impact on our co-op, taking it from virtual bankruptcy, years ago - when banks weren't even lending here -- to financial stability with maintenance that is the lowest of the surrounding co-op community, I AM INTERESTED IN UNDERSTANDING THE MOTIVATION BEHIND THOSE THAT CHOSE NOT TO VOTE and the even smaller numbers that chose to vote for one of the other candidates. In Glen Oaks Village, unlike many other housing developments, we have instilled a Boardroom culture of respect and dignity for all our residents - owners, renters and rent-stabilized tenants. With that in mind, I am reaching out to ALLresidents and will be holding a "BAGELS

FORUM IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM (BEHIND 247-11

DUE TO COMMUNITY ROOM BOOKINGS, THE EARLIESTDATESAVAILABLE ARE: SATURDAY Ocr 24, SUNDAY Ocr 25 AND SATURDAY OcrOBER 31- FROM 11:00 AM TO 1:00 PM. PLEASEMARK YOUR CALENDARS, NOW.
THIS ELECTION IS NOT
A PERSONALITY TEST1 BUT ABOUT CHOOSING THE BEST ADVOCATE FOR
OUR COMMUNITY. This is an opportunity for us to sit and talk about community concerns and issues, face to face. I will be there to listen. Call the office or email me at
[email protected] to let me know which date you plan to attend so that I can make sure we have a sufficient assortment of bagels. THE GENERAL ELECTION FOR CITY COUNCIL IS TUESDAY,
Thank you.
