An Act amending 11 V.I.C., chapter 17, as it relates to the furnishing of supermarket price lists to the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands:

SECTION 1. Title 11 V.I.C., chapter 17, subchapter II, §1012 is amended by

designating the existing paragraph as subsection (a) and inserting a new subsection (b) to
4
read as follows:

(b) All supermarkets must provide a price list for all milk, bread, rice, flour, potatoes,
6
cereal, juice, dried beans, fruits, vegetables, meats and poultry offered for sale by no later
7
than the first Monday of every month, except when such Monday is a holiday. Then, and in
8
such event, the list must be submitted on the Tuesday immediately following that Monday.

For purposes of this section supermarket means a departmentalized retail establishment
10
offering primarily on a self-serve basis a variety of dry goods, meats, perishable produce and
11
dairy products as well as a variety of convenience, nonfood merchandise.

BILL SUMMARY

Section 1 of the bill amends 11 V.I.C., chapter 17, subchapter II, §1012 by

designating the existing paragraph as subsection (a) and inserting a new paragraph (b) to
4
require supermarkets to furnish a price list for certain food items to the Department of
5
Licensing and Consumer Affairs on a monthly basis. The bill defines the term supermarket
6
for purposes of this section.
