Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson can be differentiated for students will special needs. The product can be scaled up or down depending on the cognitive abilities of students. A timeline provides a spatial representation of time so students who are visual/spatial learners can access the content. Also, by creating a timeline students will see the time. Engagement: The students will be engaged by the creative process of creating a timeline. Representation: There will be requirements to include women and Native American’s on the timeline. Action and Expression: Students will be able to determine which important events to include. They will utilize the rubric to make sure they are completing the tasks. Lesson idea implementation: The students will use the information taught in class to create a timeline of Georgia’s impact during the American Revolutionary Era. The students will be able to enjoy the freedom to select their own dates and events as long as there is a relation to Georgia. The teacher will present the information through the textbook, videos, and images. Students will be able to have a two or three class periods to complete their timelines on Visme. The timeline will be required to include images to help differentiate the product for cognitively impaired students. Students will be assessed and provided feedback using a rubric. The final time line will be able to be referenced during some tests. Reflective Practice: This activity will require students to take a longitudinal view of history. It will also emhaspise the importance of Georgia in the Revolutionary War Era. This product could be used to scaffold in more periods of history. The students could work on creating a timeline that spans the complete history of Georgia, from Native American’s through current day.
