Crime Statistics for first nine months of 2009 During the first nine months of 2009, the City of Bakersfield saw a 0.6% decrease in the overall crime rate compared with the same time period in 2008. During the first nine months of 2009 total violent crime increased 0.9% and total property crime fell 0.9%. There were 16 homicides from January – September 2009 compared to 17 for the same time period in 2008. Fourteen of the sixteen homicides were gang related. The number of gang related shootings for the first nine months of 2008 and 2009 was 46 for both years. The number of sexual assaults (rape/attempted rapes) increased from 36 in 2008 to 41 in 2009. Robberies overall decreased by 3.0%. Aggravated Assaults increased by 2.7%. Property crimes such as burglary, larceny and auto theft saw a decrease as a whole. Although Larceny reports increased by 0.2%, Burglaries decreased by 1.4% and Auto Thefts decreased by 4.1%. ###
