Introduction This report is based on a deciduous hardwood tree – Alnus glutinosa The Common Alder. In this report we investigate areas of the trees history, its preferred habitat, ecology, uses, some of the folklore associated with the tree, and also its preferred systems of management. Due to the recent shouts of alarm on the phytophthora fungus that is widely killing species of Alder the report will look at some research on the issue. Most of the research will come from the internet also books and some from word of mouth.
