Lesson 6
Sun and Moon letters
Book 1 pg 61‐63; pg 67‐68 The sun letters are the 14 letters where the tip of the tongue is used in pronunciation. The remaining 14 are moon letters. Since laam is also pronounced using the tip of the tongue, in words beginning with a sun letter the laam is silent, and the beginning letter of the main word takes a shadda. Read all words aloud, first without definite article then with the article. Take Abjad letters and divide into sun and moon letters. Complete exercise on pg 63, dividing words into two columns and adding the definite article. Complete exercise on pages 67‐68.

Lesson 7
Alif Maksura; Hamza
Alif Maqsura, Book 1 pg 64 Read and copy words on pg 64. Additional readings; note words with alif maksura. Use Abjad letters to form words. Hamza, Book 1 pg 65 Hamza is often written on a chair, which can be alif, waaw or yaa. Sometimes it is written by itself, more common at the end of the word; it is unusual for it to be in the middle of a word without a chair. If the hamza comes at the beginning of a word, it usually uses an alif as its chair. Otherwise which letter is used as a chair is determined by the vowel the hamza takes, and the vowel the letter before it takes. Read and copy the words on pg 65. Additional readings; note words with hamza. Use Abjad letters to form words.
