Attacking Drills Protect the Ball - Students work in pairs with one as the attacker and one as the defender. The attacker has the ball - Cones are set up approximately 10 metres from the base line. Each pair is to line up at the base line in front of the cone - The attacker is to dribble the ball to the cone, aiming to maintain possession of the ball and protect it from the defender - The defender aims to knock the ball out of the attackers possession as they dribble towards the cone - Once the ball is knocked from the attackers hands, or they reach the cone, students rotate roles and begin at the baseline again Progression - Change playing area - Set up cones in ‘channel’ for students to stay in - Increase dribbling distance - Add time limit KTPS - Effective movement towards the cone - Protection of the ball whilst dribbling - Head up Find the Free Cone - Students are organised into groups of 4, with three attackers and one defender - Each group works in a grid, with the attackers positioned on a cone (with one cone free) and the defender in the middle of the grid - The attackers aim to pass the ball to one another, focusing on moving to the free cone to receive the ball - The defender is to defend the pass and attempt to intercept - Attackers continue passing around the grid, constantly finding the free cone - Students continue for given time, then rotate roles (new defender) Progression - Change playing area - Change number of players - Limit number of passes or direction of pass, e.g. no diagonal passes KTPS - Effective movement to find the free cone - Hard and fast passes - Head up - Protection of the ball 5 and Shoot - Students are organised into attackers and defenders with 5 attacking players and 4 attacking players - Students play a regular game of basketball, however only within one half (start at half way line) - Attackers are to pass the ball 5 times before having a shot on goal
-
Defenders aim to defend the ball and prevent the attackers from making a pass or taking a shot - Once getting possession, defenders aim to get the ball to the centre circle, with a point awarded if the ball is caught by a defending player standing in the centre circle - 2 points for a successful shot for the attackers, 1 point for defenders getting the ball to the centre circle - Students continue until given time or score Progression - Have even number of attacker and defenders - Change playing area - Change number of passes for attacking team KTPS - Effective movement on and off the ball - Change of pace and direction - Protection of the ball whilst dribbling - Head up
