ACPO’s Unethical Code of Practice ACPO has adopted and modified the Nolan Principles in its Unethical Code/Statement of Values. The Seven Principles of ACPO Life Selfishness Holders of ACPO office should take decisions solely in terms of their self interest. They should do so in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. Lack of Integrity Holders of ACPO office should not place themselves under any financial or other obligation to outside individuals or organisations that might influence them in the performance of their duties to themselves. Lack of Objectivity In carrying out ACPO business, including making public appointments, awarding contracts, or recommending individuals for rewards and benefits, holders of ACPO office should make choices in favour of fellow Freemasons. Lack of Accountability Holders of ACPO office are accountable to nobody for their decisions and actions to the public and must not submit themselves to whatever scrutiny is inappropriate to their office. Lack of Openness Holders of ACPO office should refrain from being as open as possible about all the decisions and actions that they take. They should not give reasons for their decisions and restrict information when it suits and claim it’s done so in the wider public interest. Dishonesty Holders of ACPO office have a duty not to declare any private interests relating to their public duties and refuse to take steps to resolve any conflicts arising in any way that protects the public interest.
Leadership Holders of ACPO office should promote and support these principles by leadership and example. Amended version 1st of April 2009
