God told Adam if he ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil he would die. Satan told Adam if he ate he would be like God; he would not die and he would know good and evil. They ate, they were not dead it seemed, and they had knowledge! They had believed the lie. They had not trusted God. Jesus said; “every one who is believing in him may not perish”. So is Jesus being truthful, or should we supplement Jesus’ good works with our own good: which by the way we acquired thru the eating of the fruit when we sinned against God in the first place. And Jesus said; “the Spirit where he willeth doth blow, and his voice thou dost hear, but thou hast not known whence he cometh, and whither he goeth; thus is every one who hath been born of the Spirit”. So again God is saying something that man finds hard to believe; Faith produces life now, we are declared righteous now. We are Saved already and don’t need to add to a finished work, and since we do not know where the Spirit will go, our only option is to follow. Even Jesus followed; John 5:30 'I am not able of myself to do anything; according as I hear I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me. Paul uses the argument that as long as we are alive we are bound under the law, but at death we are freed from the law. He says; “now we have ceased from the law, that being dead in which we were held, so that we may serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of letter”. And he says; ”for apart from law sin is dead”. Paul says; Who shall lay a charge against the choice ones of God? God [is] He that is declaring righteous”, we are innocent. We do not need to modify our behavior to be good. As Faith-ers, God declares us sin free, we are righteous. We are expected to love, follow and faith.
