A NEW INNOVATION IN DEALING WITH AGRICULTURE WASTE

INTRODUCTION Noise is an environment problem which can have negative effects. Some of the consequences of noise are damaged caused to the ears, sleep disturbance, stress, high blood pressure and many more. The intensity of sound is measured in decibels (dB).

SUGARCANE India is the second largest producer of sugar (17.1%) in the world after Brazil. Within India, Uttar Pradesh (36.1%), Maharashtra (34.3%) and Karnataka (11.7%) are the three largest producers . Sugar production in India has increased from 24.8 million tonnes in 2015-16 to 32.25 million tonnes in 2017-18 and is expected to touch 35.5 million tonnes in 2019- 2020.

About 90% of sugarcane husks currently create pollution when they are treated like trash . On an average sugar-cane husk generates 2 tonnes of waste annually. On farm burning of crop residue becomes a source of greenhouse gases aerosols, particulate matters, smoke. Fibre-glass was proven to be good at absorbing sound but can be hazardous to nature and human health.

AIM Our research aim to investigate the possibility of using agricultural wastage such as sugar-cane husk as sound absorption material.

PROJECT In our project we have taken a box and covered it with sugarcane husk. They were dried to get rid of insects. Software (Decibel meter, Frequency generator) were used, Frequency generator app was used to produce different constant frequencies was placed inside the box. The readings were measured using a decibel meter. And hence an observation table comparing the resulting decibel readings and the major difference between the sound absorption in the empty box and the box covered with sugarcane husk was drawn out. But we experiment this project at a low level if it is implemented it will surely impact the society.

ADVANTAGES Agriculture wastes are not only being good at absorbing sound but are also cheap, costeffective, eco-friendly and require only a cheap technology to process. As in our country they are produces in large quantities therefore they can be used easily by us. Usage of agricultural biowastes can boost farmers’ income too as it will open a new market for the so called treated trash which are considered as bio- wastes and burnt daily which increases pollution.

APPLICATIONS These types of projects can be set up in any place where soundproof materials are been using. These eco-friendly projects can replace the hazard soundproof materials. They also can be set in cinema halls, in cars etc. Today, as we can see that Delhi and NCR has been suffering from air pollution which causes to many health diseases. In temples the priests burns the coconut shells which has a great hand in the increase of air pollution. The juice counters shop-keepers throw away the sugar-cane husk which leads in land pollution. After these types of projects the husks also have a value in market and thus the pollution can be controlled which is spreading by these husks.
