Max. Marks:60 Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks

1.a) b)

--What is the language of energy manager? A foundry unit in an industrial area is to be energy audited. As an energy manager how would you conduct the Audit and present a report.

2.a) b)

Explain the functions of energy manager. Give the check list for fixing the responsibility and authority for energy manager by the top management.

3.a)

Explain how a detailed energy audit for an industry is prepared which uses coal, fuel oil electricity. The fuel oil is used for process heating and coal is used for producing H.P. steam. Draw to scale sankey diagram and pie-chart by assuming suitable data for the above mentioned industry.

b) 4.a) b)

Explain various rules for efficient energy conservation. Explain various symbols used in energy flow network and how is it used in critical assessment of energy flows.

5.

In a double pipe heat exchange hot fluid is entering at 220 C and leaving at 115 C. Cold fluid enters at 10C and leaves at 75C. The following data is provided for hot and cold fluids. Mass flow rate of hot fluid = 100 kg/hr Specific heat of hot fluid = 4600 J/kg C Specific heat of cold fluid = 4000 J/kg C Calculate LMTD for (i) Parallel flow and (ii) Counter flow (iii) Which arrangement is preferable and why? (iv) Find the mass flow rate of cold fluid if the heat loss during the exchange is 5%.

6.a)

What are the sources of waste heat?

b) List the various heat recovery systems. c) Explain the working of a heat pump. 7.a) b) 8.

List the guidelines for identification of loses in a typical process industry. What are the technologies in electrical energy conservation? Write short notes on: (a) Indian Electricity act (b) Steps in Energy management program (c) Classification of heat exchangers (d) Load profiles, Energy and cost indices.
