INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of hydrometeorology
Uzhydromet takes an active part in the international activities of the Republic. In 1993 Uzbekistan has acceded to the convention of the World Meteorological Organization and participates actively in realization of all WMO Programs.
Every year Uzhydromet gets an expensive information (aerological information, different weather maps, actual weather and short-term weather forecasts for the foreign airports, synoptic and satellite information) free of charge from the leading world meteorologica centres and from the artificial Earth satellites, this information is of the utmost importance for the hydrometeorological provision of the country economy.
Besides, during 1996-1999 Uzbekistan was granted with the up-to-date meteorological equipment and instruments. In its turn, Uzbekistan provides the information: daily data of precipitation, maximum and minimum temperatures, information for publication in collection “Monthly climatic data of the World” and other in the framework of the agreement with WMO.
Uzhydromet
By the initiative of Uzhydromet and invitation of the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan the XIVth Session of the Regional Association II Asia will take place in Tashkent this December. Currently the preparation for the organization of this Session is underway.
By the invitation of Uzhydromet in December 2007 the technical factfinding WMO mission visited Uzhydromet. The members of this mission were familiarized with the scientific-and-technical provision of the hydrometeorological and ecological studies in the Republic and accessed the capacities for the XIVth Session of the Regional Association II Asia of WMO in Tashkent (5-11 December, 2008).
In the result of the mission activities in the framework of the Voluntary Cooperation Program the Japanese company Koshin Electric Co. Ltd has kindly and free of charge provided Uzhydromet with electrical weathercock/anemometer?
With the financial support of WMO the experts of Uzhydromet take an active part in the international workshops, conferences and exhibitions organized both in Uzbekistan and abroad.
Besides its main activities WMO initiates also measures aimed at the awareness of children and young people. A nice booklet titled “We take care of our climate” is published for children. In Uzbekistan this brochure was translated into the Russian and state languages.
Together with the International Ocean Institute the international competition of the young artists was organized which was devoted to the subject of “Weather, climate and ocean as the young people see them” where the children of Uzhydromet personnel participated, too. One of the prize bounties in this competition was taken by Sabina Khamidova (14 year old) from Tashkent. Her work was titled as “After the rain” which was included to the WMO book of pictures. This book gives an idea of an overview of future generation on the world.

Following the resolution of the government, Uzhydromet is charged with the performance of the relevant international obligations, UN Framework Convention on the Climate Change (1993, 1994), Kyoto Protocol (1998, 1999), UN Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought, International Hydrological Program of UNESCO, contributing to the national interests with participation in the due programs and international activities.

Uzhydromet works in close cooperation with the Global Ecological Fund , UN Development Program , UN Environment Program , UN Industrial Development Organization , International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea , World Health Organization , participates in the implementation of a number of ecological projects in close coordination with the relevant ministries and agencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

With the support of the Swiss Agency on Development and Cooperation (SDC) the activities on the updating of the system of the flow forecasting of the rivers in the Aral Sea basin are being carried out.
• With the active participation of Uzhydromet the close cooperation between the National Hydrometeorological Services (NHMS) in the Aral Sea basin is organized for the solution of hydrological problems in the basin and improvement of ecological situation.
For the significant contribution to the success of the national exposition of the Republic of Uzbekistan at EXPO2005 in Anchi (Japan) which was awarded the bronze prize of the International Exhibition Bureau in nomination of “Presentation of the main subject of the World exposition – “Wisdom of Nature” – Uzhydromet was awarded the Honorary Diploma.

Uzhydromet was one of the initiators of:
the preparation of adoption of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology of CIS and in the establishment of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology; the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology and information exchange on the Aral Sea basin. preparation of the Agreement on scientific-technical cooperation with every Central Asian country in the field of hydrometeorology.
During 15 Uzhydromet actively cooperates with the countries of the commonwealth of the independent states (CIS) in the framework of the interstate Council on Hydrometeorology (ICHM). Experts of Uzhydromet are members of almost all working bodies of ICHM being the leaders of 3 of its 17 Working Groups and take an active part in all sessions of ICHM.
