Classroom Newsletter First Grade News
March is blowing in like a lion full of excitement, just like the excitement that can be found in the first grade. In March we will be scientists working on our science projects!! We will learn all about the scientific method and how to express ourselves just as scientists do. We will also be having our spring parent conferences. At this time we will be distributing your child’s second report card. Stay tuned for more details.
Reader’s Workshop
During Reader’s Workshop we are now in full swing in the Imagine It reading program. We now incorporate the use of the decodable books, readers and workbooks to help in improving our reading skills. We just finished working on the theme of maps and directions, and are now working on the theme of “I Think I Can”. We find that this program is great for multi curriculum learning.
Writer’s Workshop In our writer’s workshop we are now working on an Author Study that will work in conjunction with a response to literature. Miss Vogel’s class is working on books by Eric Carle. Miss Fierstein’s class is working on books by Robert Munsch. Perhaps your children might like to read more stories by these authors when they visit the public library. We’ve loved learning and writing about these great authors.
Everyday Math Is it > < or =? That is the question. We are learning to compare values of numbers using correct math symbols. At this time we are also learning about” turn around facts”, which is the commutative property of addition. Of course we are still reviewing time, money, and subtraction.
