YOUTH MINISTRY STAFF WORKER POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Staff worker in the church’s youth ministry programs Reports to: Youth Director/Youth Minister/Senior Pastor General Qualifications Required 1. All youth staff members shall be of good character and be of the Christian faith. 2. All youth staff members shall a. be physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. b. have a basic understanding of youth and their needs. c. be adaptive to a variety of situations. d. be willing to grow in their knowledge of youth through periodic education and training events. 3. All youth staff members shall have a physician’s report stating that the staff member is in good health and has presented the result of a current tuberculin test. 4. All youth staff members shall have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma. 5. All youth staff members shall be at least twenty-two years of age. Duties of Youth Staff Member 1. Provide physical, emotional, and intellectual support to youth, as appropriate for the circumstances. 2. Provide appropriate guidance to each youth in your ministries and activities. 3. Develop a relationship of trust and continuity with the youth and their parents. 4. Provide support and assistance to parents of youth through positive communication. 5. Provide opportunities for spiritual growth through appropriate programs and worship experiences. 6. Provide opportunities for growth in knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith through appropriate programs and educational experiences with youth. 7. Create and support a youth council comprised of youth and adults to assist with implementation of youth ministry opportunities for study, worship, fellowship, and mission. 8. Coordinate weekly community-building activities, programs, and Bible study opportunities for youth. 9. Coordinate monthly mission opportunities. 10. Coordinate participation in district and conference youth activities. Performance Expectations of a Youth Staff Member 1. Be punctual. Notify the youth director in advance if you must be late. 2. Be reliable in your attendance. Notify the youth director in advance if you must be absent. 3. Attend periodic training and education events provided by the church. 4. Be polite, friendly, and courteous to others, both youth and adults. 5. Do not engage in physical punishment/discipline of any youth. 6. Cooperate with other youth staff members, volunteers, and parents. 7. Abide by and apply the youth ministry policies of _______________________ Church at all times.
