What are rocks? Have you ever wondered what is under the ground? You might be standing on a wooden floor or on a pavemement but what is underneath?
If you could dig away all of the soil what would you find?
• The answer is the Earth's outer shell or crust and it is made up of rocks.
• Rocks are solid substances which form the Earth´s crust.
• They form the land where we live : the mountains, the hills, the plains, the valleys, the rocky land or cliffs the bottom of the seas and rivers.
What are rocks? • They are made up mostly of crystals of different kinds of “Minerals”. • Others contain valuable metals and minerals.
What are rocks? • Rocks are natural and are non living things. • Examples : Marble is made up of only one mineral,calcite.
What are rocks? • Some rocks are made of different crystals or grains of different colours and sizes. • Then, we say that the rock is formed from different “Minerals”,for example “Granite”: feldespar, quartz and mica.
