Student phonathon callers needed The institutional advancement department seeks students to place phone calls to alumni, parents and friends to solicit Annual Fund contributions and update information. Callers serve as ambassadors for SCAD and must represent the university in a positive manner. Callers earn $8 per hour plus performance incentives. Callers must work a minimum of three shifts per week. Limited daytime shifts may be available. Regular shifts are Monday-Thursday, 6-10 p.m. The phonathon takes place at Granite Hall, 126 E. Gaston St. Interested applicants need to schedule an interview by Nov. 17. Phone-a-thon starts Jan. 4 and runs through May. Call for submissions: online anthology Senior film and television student Daniel Reed seeks submissions of short scenes that will be made into films and added to the online anthology randomplay. In this anthology, the viewer will see three short scenes played randomly from a cache of 30-40 scenes, all of which serve to show the gradual shift toward a more digital way of life. [email protected]. Call for entries: gingerbread houses The Westin is hosting a gingerbread house village in its hotel lobby Nov. 23-Dec. 25. SCAD students can demonstrate their creative talent by submitting entries in the student division. Students can win up to $800 in scholarship money. All entries must be delivered to the hotel Nov. 20-23. All entrants should create a quick concept design and sketch of the structure they propose and e-mail
[email protected] for prior approval, to ensure the subject fits the theme. Concept should be Savannah/Lowcountry/Old South related. Gingerbread houses should be roughly 24 x 24 in size (you may use a wooden or other frame). Winning

Weston Package Center winter break hours From Nov. 16-Dec. 30, the Weston Package Center will be open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the center will close at 1 p.m. on the following days: Nov. 25, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. The center will resume regular business hours Monday, Jan. 4. Call for entries: Image needed for CSSS social media sites The SCAD office of counseling and student support services is looking for a new image for its Facebook and Twitter sites! Atlanta and Savannah students are encouraged to submit an image. The top three contestants will have their images displayed and rotated throughout the first two weeks of winter quarter. Move-in Crew volunteers needed The Move-in Crew is a group of students who assist new incoming students moving in for Winter 2010. Volunteers welcome new students and parents to campus, answer questions during opening days and assist residents to move their belongings into their room. Move-in crew volunteers receive a free and stylish Move-in Crew shirt and water bottle. Volunteers who live in residence halls will be able to return to campus Dec. 31 and receive dinner the Friday night before opening. Volunteers should have a positive and hardworking attitude, attend an orientation session Jan. 1, and be prepared to work Jan. 2.

A Conversation with Amy Astley, Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue Students of all majors are invited to meet Amy Astley, editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Friday, Nov. 13, 5-7 p.m., at the Student Center. The founding editor of Teen Vogue will chat with Michael Fink, dean of the SCAD School of Fashion, about fashion, the magazine business, and her career at House & Garden, Vogue and now Teen Vogue. "The Ordinary Iconic Ranch House" by Richard Cloues Tuesday, Nov. 10, 6:30 p.m. Student Center, 120 Montgomery St. Ranch houses were built by the thousands across the United States during the mid-20th century. Widely perceived today as quite ordinary, these houses are in fact extraordinary hallmarks of a distinct historic period. Utilizing examples from across Georgia, this lecture by Richard Cloues, state historic preservation officer, explores how the ranch house represents new ideas about domestic architectural design and family life. Madonna bought the artist’s Green Pink Caviar video as a backdrop for her Sticky and Sweet tour and MAC enlisted her to create works using the cosmetic firm’s fall pigments. Minter has also collaborated with artist Wangechi Mutu in a series of photographs depicting Mutu as a sensual golden goddess, and actress Pamela Anderson became her muse for the centerfold of the Swiss art magazine Parkett. Cave held a solo exhibition “Cosmic Couturier” in Spring 2009 at SCAD’s Pinnacle Gallery, which featured newly created Soundsuits and tondos by the artist. Suggestive of ceremonial garments, costume, haute couture and superhero disguise, Cave’s Soundsuits, or performative wearable sculptures, are intricately ornamented with reclaimed fabric and found objects selected for their symbolism and auditory function.
