AASHRITHA

The Journey Begins In

today’s competitive world,

education is very important for everyone. In India, many children are unable to attain the fruits of education because of many reasons. One of the main reasons is due to their financial status. Many families who live under poverty line or on their daily earnings are not able to provide proper education to their children. Though government is doing it’s best to provide free education to these kids, the facilities provided are limited and many children are still deprived of their fundamental right to education. So, being educated Indians, it is our responsibility to give a helping hand to these kids residing in rural India. Everyone of us are interested to give their

helping hand to the society, but most of us do not know what to do, where to start and how to do.

Aashrita Helping Hands community As the famous saying says, “Any Long Journey Starts from a Single Step”, a small group of students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, made their first step to educate the under privileged kids from rural India and started a community named “AASHRITHA HELPING HANDS COMMUNITY”.

And many others, students and employees, who are interested in objectives of the community, joined their hands to lead the journey of educating rural India. Now the community is a group of members from different UnderGraduate, Graduate schools, firms, companies etc. The main objective of the community is to provide education and moral support to the children who are deprived of such opportunities. We invite you to join our community and get involved in the journey, by giving us your helping hand. Let us all strive and fight as a team to make the Helping Hands Community Aashritha a success and form a chain that would help poor and under—privileged children, for whom Education is still a dream.

First Step The

Aashritha

group

has

started, what it was meant for. Aashritha has indentified five children from different villages, and has adopted them. All these kids are Aashritha’s responsibility now. The five kids have been officially admitted to a local school, Hi-

maja School, Puttur, AP, India. Founder of Aashritha, Jayachandra personally visited the School and met the management of the school to complete the enrolment of the children. Himaja School Correspondent also came forward to support the cause and gave a discount of 40% on the fees. The funds collected

from various sources has been put to it’s purpose. Rupees Ten thousand (Rs 10,000) has been paid as the first term’s fee for the five kids to the Himaja School for the year 2008—09. Fee for the second term will made as and when required. Aashritha aims at supporting more kids for the next academic year.

adopt and edu-

cate children who are not in a position to get education and are in turn drawn towards child labor. We at Aashritha are driven by the motto to provide extreme care and education to these children and help them achieve their respective dreams. Our long term goal is to

open several residential schools across India, to be able to educate poor students by providing financial and moral support. We are not here to simply give the funds needed for the education, but also try and make sure that the funds are utilized in an effective and efficient manner. Along with the academic education, we believe in

creating general awareness, imbibing moral values and putting pure and clean thoughts to the young minds of these children, without which the education is incomplete. For monitoring and controlling reasons, the village or town of education is always in or around the area of one of our committed members.

Covering World under its Canopy Aashritha is getting recognised by people across the globe. What else could demonstrate this fact more than the latest coordinator to join Aashritha. Aashritha establishes its presence in the United States of America. The current center for Aashritha activities is taken up by our coordinator from Dallas, Texas, USA. Although Aashritha unites people from across the world, the

aim lies at the very center of its creation, India. Aashritha is also spreading across corners of India. Not surprising, Aashritha attracts the younger and fresh minds of various profile owner - students, service class and businessmen. On similar lines, Aashritha got two new coordinators, one from Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, West Bengal and the other from Thane (Mumbai).

This establishes Aashritha in the Eastern and Western parts of India after a successful involvement from the North and the South. Kids from Elementary School

Paathshala Program With the aim of improving the overall standards of education in rural India, Aashritha has launched the 'Paathshala' program. Under this program, Aashritha will support schools/ classrooms where the basic level of infrastructure or facilities are missing. Aashritha will

donate a limited amount to these schools and make sure that the funds are utilised by the school administrators in an effective way. The basics include notebooks, textbooks, stationeries and educational items like, atlas, globe, geometry-sets, colours, slates, dictionary, posters of leaders and few sports items.

A small contribution can really impact the level of education for dozens of children at once. The basic aim of 'Paathshala' is to thus support a small elementary school, there The Elementary School Buildby helping many stu- ing, first to come under Paathdents at once. shala Program.
