Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field

Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field (SNGPF) Valencia, Negros Oriental

Sequence of Presentation

1. Short Review of Geothermal energy 2. Powerplants in the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field 3. Overview of the Plant process

WHAT IS GEOTHERMAL ENERGY? GEO means EARTH

THERMAL means HEAT

GEOTHERMAL IS HEAT FROM THE EARTH

The Earth’s surface

Collision of plates

Island arc Japan Philippines

Andes mountains South America

Subduction zone

Heat source

Basic Features of a Geothermal System Rain – is the meteoric water that is fossilized and enclosed in deep rock formation

Hot Springs- are indicators that geothermal energy is present

Caprock-serves as the cover so that steam does not escape and pressure is confined Water- is the medium that carries the heat from the rocks Reservoir-a zone of permeable rocks which contains hot fluid

Magma-is the heat source

GEOTHERMAL DEVELOPMENT STAGES 1. GEOSCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION TO LOCATE THE AREA OF A POSSIBLE GEOTHERMAL RESOURCE GEOLOGY

GEOCHEMISTRY

2. DRILLING STAGE

3. DEVELOPMENT/PRODUCTION STAGE
