VOCABULARY OVERVIEW GUIDE:
Definition: It is a vocabulary strategy that places the responsibility of learning new words from content areas on the students. This strategy helps students develop an association with a significant clue to a word’s meaning, as well as determine its definition.
Advantages : • It conditions students to be alert to key words in the reading .

PROCEDURE :
Step 1: Present the overview guide format to students. Use a transparency or the board so that everyone can see it and work along with you filling in the chart.

Step 2: Select a section to be read. Teacher or students skim the section to find new and difficult words. Limit to six words.
Step 3: Direct students to write these words on their V.O.G.

Step 5: Guide students as they develop the definitions and clues for the rest of the words.
Step 6: Students may be assigned to work in pairs as they use the guide to learn new words. Model the studying by first reveling the word, then uncovering the clue if needed, and finally uncovering the definition.
Step 7: Encourage students to continue to add to their definitions as they learn more about each word. In this way, they will connect known words with new words and that will help them to remember.
