AC DRIVES
Topics to be presented
[2]
Introduction • An electric motor together with its control equipment and energytransmitting device forms an electric drive. • Two types of electric drives- AC drive and DC drive • When drives are used to control DC motor it is called the DC drive and when it is used to control AC motors it is called the AC drive. [3]
Why to use AC drives? • AC machines have no commutators, hence less maintenance. • AC machines costs and weighs less than the DC machines. • AC machines can work better in hostile conditions

Types of AC Drives
1. Static frequency changers 2. Variable voltage controllers 3. Rectifier inverter systems with natural commutation 4. Rectifier inverter systems with selfcommutation.

Conclusion • Now a days the AC drives are used widely • So more sophisticated motor control
strategies can be adopted by the ANN theory. • By ANN intelligent drives can be made by which can take decision for controlling the motor parameters.
