John is a very lazy and irresponsible student. He always plays truant to school. One day John and his friend Matt, went to the shopping mall after skipping school. They saw some girls at the shopping mall. John said to Matt “ Matt, look at those chicks!”. “Wow, they are very hot John.” replied Matt and continued staring at the girls. Suddenly someone tapped on John’s shoulder. When he turned to look who was it, his blood ran cold as he saw his English language teacher staring back at him. After that incident both of them were very careful and made sure that they never run into any teachers even during holidays.
Denotative and Connotative • Chicks - a young bird, especially one newly hatched. (Den) - describing girls in a negative connotation. (Conn) • Hot - having a high degree of heat or a high temperature. (Den) - A very sexy looking women. (Conn)
Figurative Language • Idiom - blood ran cold - Definition= If something makes your blood run cold, it shocks or scares you a lot.
Phrasal Language • Run into - Meeting someone. - It does not literally means running into someone.
