Ngunit hinikayat ni Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar, ang bagong pangulo ng CBCP, ang militar na maghinay-hinay. GIE Alcasid is glad about the success of the Kaya Natin Ito concert which lasted for seven and a half hours nonstop. “Gawad Kalinga and OPM have forged a partnership to help storm victims,” he says. “It touched my heart to see the performers give their time, wealth and talent so unselfishly.” Since he’s giving his all to show his love of country, doesn’t he plan to take it to the next level and run for public office? “Never in my wildest dreams,” he quips. “I don’t know anything about politics. I believe what is more important is to really value the true ideals of patriotism. It may be difficult under the current circumstances but it’s the best time to show it.” If there’s anything Ogie is good at showing, it’s his unconditional support for his ex Michelle Van Eimerren and her new hubby Mark. He gave them an iMac as a wedding gift. Ogie and GF Regine’s presence at Michelle and Mark’s wedding was the best present of all.

Patriotism, not politics for Ogie Thursday starting Dec. 10 after Shining Inheritance on the Telebabad block. Dens portrays Miguel who is a workaholic. His life is turned upside down when he gets stuck as the legal guardian of his nephew EJ (Francis). They don’t get along well so Miguel decides to bring EJ to an orphanage. On their way to the shelter, they keep bickering and accidentally shove Santa Claus. Because of their bad behavior, Santa magically switched their bodies to teach them a lesson. Miguel ends up in EJ’s body while EJ is locked up in Miguel’s torso. If Dens could become somebody else for a day, who would he choose to be? “Fedor Emelianenko,” he says. “I want to experience what it’s like to be the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in the world.” In the show, he’s a reluctant father. But in real life, Dens savors being a dad to his love child Calyx. “He’s hyper, madal-

dal, super bright,” Dens beams. “He loves to dance, sing, wrestle and play video games. I love being with him. Last year was my fave Christmas because it was my first one with my son. Even if I have no one to keep me warm this Christmas, it’s more than enough that I have my son to hug.” Many girls must be dying to trade places with Calyx. Exchange? In the vocabulary of a bachelor at large like Dennis, that means “change of ex” because he keeps changing girls.

Don’t miss the musical documentary concert of Regine Velasquez, After The Rain: A Hopeful Christmas with Regine

on Dec. 13 on GMA 7’s Sunday Night Box Office (SNBO). It pays homage to the Filipino spirit that has remained resilient despite the odds brought by “Ondoy” and “Pepeng.” The concert was attended by 800 flood victims who were fetched from evacuation centers and brought to the Kapuso network’s studio for a dinner party before the show. Also featured in the concert are Pops Fernandez, Jaya, Kuh Ledesma, Jay-R, Kyla, La Diva, UP Concert Chorus and more. I remember Regine told me in jest that her necklace, which bears her pet name “Reigne,” means that it rains every time she sings. Such humility and candor makes Asia’s Songbird continue to reign!

Ronaldo’s wacky side

Ronaldo Valdez totally cracked me up when I interviewed him. Now I know where Janno Gibbs got his wacky side. Ronaldo is more than delighted to be Ensure Gold’s “golden guy.” Does he still need Viagra even if he already takes the milk supplement? “I never had problems in that department,” he said with a naughty grin. “I remember Eddie Garcia told me that kung ayaw ni Manoy, eh di ayaw!” Did he also get entangled with many women during his younger years like his son Janno? “I had my time,” he recalled, laughing. “What made me mellow was when FPJ advised me na kung wala naman akong balak pakasalan, ’wag ko ng pakialaman.” How’s Janno and Bing’s marriage now? “I don’t ask,” he replied. “They still live together. Convenient ang set-up nila because they have two condo units next to each other. ’Pag war, sa kabilang unit muna ang isa (laughs).” Humor really is Ronaldo’s anti-aging device.

ABA expansion spells big bucks, exec says By Dennis U. Eroa Sports Editor LAS VEGAS—Joe Newman, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the American Basketball Association, expressed confidence that the $200 million global expansion by the league under Filipino international financier Paul Monozca would be a huge success. ‘’I am proud to be associated with Paul and his people. I am impressed with his professionalism and I have no doubt that he will bring the world together through basketball,’’ said Newman Wednesday as he formally announced the partnership between ABA and ABA Global at the Las Vegas Country Club here. Monozca, the vice-chairman

of ABA Global, said he was impressed with the rich heritage of ABA and there was no way but go global in today’s world. With its global expansion, Filipino players will be given the chance of joining ABA teams next season. Philippine teams will also be given the chance to join the players exchange program and compete in the ABA China Games, World Basketball Cup and other international events to be participated by the ABA. IENTIANE, Laos—Pinatunayan ng Taekwondo jins ng Pilipinas na sina Janice Lagman, Rani Ann Ortega at Camille Alarilla na tama ang pagtitiwalang ibinigay sa kanila ng sambayanan matapos nilang sikwatin ang unang ginto para sa bansa sa 25th Southeast Asian Games na isinasagawa rito.
