Sa pangkalahatan, baka “likely to be about the fifthwarmest year on record” ang taon, ani Michel Jarraud, secretary general ng World Meteorological Organization. “Very likely to be the warmest on record” ang dekadang 200020009, “warmer than the 1990s, than the 1980s and so on,” ani Jarraud sa isang news conference, hawak ang isang chart na nagpapakita sa patuloy na pagtaas ng temperatura.

“The judge to

whom the cases are raffled is directed to hear the cases at Camp Crame,” ani Guerra sa isang news conference.

Nagpalipad ang Philippine Air Force ng d a l a w a n g O V- 1 0 bomber plane upang

“This is a persuasion flight,” ani Col. “The flight of the

Broncos is part of the message for them to peacefully surrender,” ani Ferrer, tinukoy ang mga eroplanong kayang maghulog ng mga bombang 500 libra ang bigat. Nagbabala si Ferrer: “If they don’t like to heed our calls to come out peacefully, we will use the full force of the law (against them).” M Ramos, JR Uy at Inquirer Mindanao

Christine Reyes learns a few secrets from Vic Sotto Piolo-KC t-shirts

ZA Calzado is ecstatic about being Bong Revilla’s leading lady in Ang Panday, an entry to the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) which opens Dec. 25. Wasn’t she wary of being linked to Bong who’s known to be a ladies’ man?

“For some reason I never got scared of that thought,” she says. “Maybe because I always felt that we would never have anything more than a professional relationship.” Any funny anecdotes during their shooting? “Bong was eating vegetarian chicaharon and later on he felt guilty and put the blame on me even if I didn’t get a piece,” she recalls, laughing. “So he ended up eating the nuts I brought with me.” How did her encounter with Lani Mercado go after her kissing scene with Bong? “She kept laughing because I felt so awkward about being around her, knowing that I kissed her husband the night before. She told me, ‘Wala yun! Ano ka ba?’ Saludo ako sa kanya.” The love battles that Lani and Bong have survived beat all the obstacles that Panday endures onscreen. Ideal wife (Lani) wiped out the rest.

“Super maalaga si Cristine’s secret Bossing,” says Cristine Reyes is all praise for Vic Sotto, her Christine Reyes, and leading man in Ang Darling she follows his advice. Kong Aswang, also an

MMFF entry. “Super maalaga si Bossing,” she beams. “Starstruck ako when we first had a long talk sa shooting namin in Araneta. For seven straight years, Vic’s MMFF entries were the top-grossers, which makes him the undisputed MMFF Box-Office King. With FHM’s Sexiest Woman as his leading lady, looks like Bossing’s winning streak will continue. While keeping the male population hot, Cristine’s Christmas is cold. For sure, legions of men will volunteer to give her a MWAH-rry KISSmas.

A Born-Again Christian friend told me that she spotted Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion attending Sunday worship service at the Music Museum. They were wearing matching white T-shirts. Same faith, same outfit. Same feelings?

China’s chef

I bumped into China Cojuangco and her BF chef Gino Gonzalez in Greenhills Theater Mall. It was such a delight to see her because I always enjoy our texting about girlish joys. I teased her: So will there be wedding bells soon? China turned to her “Bun.” “When daw? Look at him! Umiiwas sumagot (laughs).” Seems like the fab cooking couple have all the right ingredients for marriage.

He’s humongous! IT was an affable Dave Batista who surprised everyone as Universal Robina Corp. (URC) publicly launched it’s new energy drink line Xplode over the weekend. Larger than life—humongous actually—the 6’6", 290-lb, five-time world heavyweight wrestling champion was all charm as he answered questions thrown by entertainment journalists from tv and print. He even shared a bit of family history. “My grandfather is a Filipino. He went to the US with nothing but he

had four jobs. He was just a hard worker,” said Batista, who’s real name is Michael David Bautista. He went on to credit his grandfather for his success as a wrestler, saying he inherited the old man’s values. And heads up fans, Batista’s got a movie coming out next year, something produced by his outfit World Wrestling Entertainment. But will he be the good or bad guy in this one? He smiles enigmatically and says, “Sometimes good guys do bad things.” Romel Lalata

US basketball slots free-for-all By Dennis U. Eroa LAS VEGAS—The small men will make the big difference in a nationwide tryouts slated March next year in the Philippines for Filipino cagers aspiring to be drafted in the American Basketball Association (ABA). ‘’The biggest assets will be the pointguards and offguards. The American and other teams are huge and our backcourt men have the brightest chance to excel,” said investment banker Paul Monozca, also the vice-chairman of ABA Global and ABA USA board member. The 41-year-old Monozca recalled the successful experience of now Talk N Tex star Jason Castro and Al Vergara, both pointguards, with the Singapore Slingers in the Australian Pro league. He also noted that two Japanese pointguards have already been included in the ABA roster. To avoid conflict, Monozca said he would consult with SBP executive director Noli Eala, PBA Commissioner Sonny Barrios, PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad and Bro. Bernie Oca of incoming UAAP host De La Salle regarding the tryouts.

‘’Let us work for everyone because the historic entry of Filipino cagers in the ABA is a serious matter. Key decision makers will be involved in the process and a committee will be formed to assure that the tryouts will be held all over the Philippines,” Monozca said. He added that he will also talk with agents like Danny Espiritu, Charlie Dy and advisers like sportsman-businessman Arben Santos regarding the matter. ‘’There are hidden talents nationwide and we want everybody to have a crack in this golden opportunity,” Monozca said. Aside from Filipino basketball movers, Monozca said legendary US collegiate mentor Bobby Knight would also be consulted regarding the tryouts. ‘’ Coach Knight is advising the ABA on technical matters.I will be happy if at least two Pinoys will make in initially in the ABA draft next year.”

24 cups of goodwill with CBTL THIS Christmas, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) allows you to celebrate Christmas and give back to the community with “Give in to Giving: 24 Cups with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.” To help generate awareness about the partner organizations, CBTL held an advocacy fair at its Greenbelt 3 branch last Dec. 5. Shoppers dropped by at the fair and made themselves familiar with the various causes pushed by the organizations. The groups also sold items that could be used as small gifts and tokens this Christmas. This year, each CBTL branch has a particular organization to

support. Marketing director Paolo del Rosario said each branch would act as an extension of the partner organization they are sponsoring. Thus, the proximity of the group’s office to the CBTL branch determined which organization is to be partnered with a certain outlet. CBTL customers are invited to complete a sticker card. Nine drinks is all that is needed to make a donation. Once the nine sticker boxes are completed, customers will also get a free journal. CBTL will donate 5 percent of its beverage sales to the partner advocacies at the end of the campaign.

THE CHRISTMAS season magnifies what has long been established in Filipino culture: that for the Filipino, happiness means being with the people that mean most to them. In cooperation with the Virlanie Foundation, an organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of street children by giving them a sense of family, support and love, Enervon launched “Share the Happy.”

TONI Gonzaga and Yosef Elizalde Through “Share the Happy,” Enervon provides Filipinos an opportunity contribute in enriching the lives of street children this Christmas. As part of the campaign, Enervon unveils a partially-lighted interactive billboard along EDSA. The public is encouraged to help light up the billboard and pledge their support for the cause by texting “Refill” to 2948. Each text message is a sign of support which translates to an additional light on the billboard. When it is

fully lighted, a donation will be formally made by Enervon to the Virlanie Foundation on behalf of all who supported the cause. “At Enervon, our main goal for this campaign is to give the public an opportunity to ‘Share the Happy’ this Christmas to more than 300 street children under the 12 residential homes of Virlanie and more than 800 children through its outreach programs. Through this initiative, we want to make these children feel that we care. In our own way and with the help of the public, we know we can make a difference,” said Jalene Tiu, Enervon Product Manager. The public is invited to take a proactive role and Share the Happy this Christmas by texting “Refill” to 2948. The “Share the Happy” text drive will run until Dec. 28. Every message sent will translate to a donation by Enervon to Virlanie Foundation on behalf of the sender.
