What are lizards? Lizards are part of a large group of reptiles, a class of animals with mostly dry, horny scales. This group includes iguanas, chameleons, geckos, monitors, and skinks. Many of them can leap, climb trees, and swim. One even runs on water! Some of them look like little dinosaurs. Others are like little alligators. Some even remind you of fierce storybook dragons. A long time ago, when people saw lizards like the bearded dragon, they thought they were baby dragons! There are over 4,500 species (types) of lizards in the world. Bet you can’t name them all!
