THE HEATING VALUE OF ORGANIC RUBBISH BRIQUETTE Mirmanto Mechanical Engineering Department, The University of Mataram Jl. Majapahit no. 62, Mataram, NTB, Indonesia [email protected] ABSTRACT According to BPPS, the growth of the citizen of Mataram regency is about 3.27% per year. This growth is high relatively. Therefore, this causes increasing rubbish production in Mataram city. In the year of 2002, waste production was up to 921 m3/ day. This case will make a lot of problem for health and environment. The dangers of rubbish/waste are ground pollutant, air pollutant, water pollutant, and flooding as well as health disturbance. The government solves rubbish problem with making TPA, but this way becomes unpopular due to its negative environment impact. Other case, waste advantages can be explored, but because lacking of technology and book reverences so no one is interested to dig the benefit of waste. With those problems above, writer trays to serve the description advantaging waste. The method used in this paper is literature study to data. Data is then processed and calculated by thermodynamic equation. Calculation result is used to predict whether waste of Mataram be able to used for generating electrical power. The combustion energy of rubbish production in Mataram is 2.86 MW. Therefore, the government actually can think about the used of waste (rubbish) instead of disposing it to TPA (final disposal waste place) only. Keyword: Solid waste (rubbish), briquette, energy and heating value.
