condemns detention of
body of pilot recovered... family pays tribute The National Dive Squad of Police has found wreckage at bottom of Wanaka lake some 48 metres below the surface. The president of Coastguard Wanaka Lakes Jonathan Walmisley said the next challenge is to bring the item to the surface. Matthew Timothy Wallis, 39 was reported overdue on Saturday afternoon, when the helicopter which he was flying disappeared from tracking systems soon after takingoff from Wanaka Airport. Police has sought help from the Navy underwater search specialists who are equipped with the system that can operate in deep waters. The Navy specialists are expected to assess the scene this afternoon. On Saturday wreckage was found on the shore of an island in the lake. Pilot Mathew is the son of Warbirds over Wanaka founder Sir Tim Wallis. Police is presuming that pilot in crash is now dead and is focusing to recover the body when they resume the search on Tuesday.
Pilot’s brother paid tribute to his brother saying he is already missing him and will never ever forget him. The Wallis family owns Alpine Helicopter and Minaret Station, remote and exclusive lodge and a working farm on the western side of Lake Wanaka in Queenstown. Mr Mathew was a very popular in his group and well liked local helicopter pilot. By the time we went into print the latest update was that the body of the missing pilot has been recovered from the Wanaka Lake as per release from the Queenstown Police.
Thailand hits out at foreign media
for interviewing cave boys Continued from P1 The guidelines are same which follow in legal proceedings in Thailand. A psychologist has to be present during questioning "to stop opening the
wound laid deep inside the hearts of children and minors. They are at the age of fragility and they must be protected," as per the report.
It added that those who violated the act would be slapped a maximum fine of 60,000 baht (approx. USD 1,800) or with six months imprisonment or both. Earlier, the local authorities had cautioned Thai and foreign journalists to prevent interviewing the boys of the soccer team, who were released from the hospital last week, for safeguarding "mental health."
In the wake of reports regarding the detention of 52 Sikhs at a United States detention centre, Indian-American businessman Sant Singh Chatwal said an investigation is underway into the "unfortunate" incident.
"The matter is under investigation. We are checking on their involvement (with the contingent of illegal immigrants who are seeking asylum). I am sure that the US will make a fair decision. What happened there is an unfortunate thing. I can't say much, but if an Indian in the US gets into a problem, we help them," he said.
Chatwal then went on to explain how he himself was embroiled in a huge case in the States. "I also had a case where I gave money to Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton for some political interests. A judge, who was 92 years old told me that it was not illegal and there were no implications. In America, there is a justice system. If that thing wasn't there, then I would have been in jail today," he said. Talking about the strict immigration rules imposed by the Donald Trump administration, Chatwal implied that such regulations have to be relaxed and modified. "If on one hand, interfaith communities are organising prayer events for their sons, non-profit organisations like UNIDOS are collecting and depositing funds in their commissary accounts. If on one hand, pro bono attorneys are representing their sons, translators and interpreters are offering their services free of cost," she said.

Community Electronic Crime. Electronic crime is becoming more common as we are moving into the age of computers, tablets and mobile phones with internet access.Electronic crime also known as e-crime or cybercrime refers to criminal activity that involves the internet, a computer, mobile phone and other electronic devices.
This year there have been several scams going around, one of which was where a person was claiming to be calling from the IRD informing the business owner or resident that they were currently under investigation by Police and that they had to pay a sum of money immediately to avoid prosecution.
Some e-crime relates specifically to computers, such as the distribution or damaging electronic viruses or launching a denial-of -service attack which causes a computer to deny access to the authorised user.
This is just one of a number of IRD scams that have been running throughout Auckland over the past eighteen months and undoubtedly won’t be the last.
Other examples of electronic crime include fraud, harassment, bullying, copyright breaches and making, possessing or distributing objectionable material such as child pornography, nonetheless the majority of incidents reported to Police regarding electronic crime relate to online scams. Scamming is becoming more common and we are seeing an increase in this type of activity across the country and unfortunately some unsuspecting individuals are being conned into providing personal information including bank details and pin numbers over the phone or via the internet.
Reporting e-crime or scams is just like reporting any other offence and can be reported at a local police station. If you wish to report objectionable material or possible gaming offences, this can be reported to the Department of Internal Affairs. Other online offences can also be reported on the Net safe web site www.netsafe.org.nz If your or your family use electronic devices then you need to know how to stay safe online to prevent becoming a victim of e-crime. There is some very useful information on the internet regarding online safety and this can be found from the Netsafe website. WWW. netsafe.org.nz This web site has a list of all the current scams and provide helpful
information and advice for everyone. If you are a victim of electronic crime or believe that someone is trying to con you then the New Zealand Police want to hear about it. You may indirectly prevent another person from being victimized or conned and may be able to help police identify those responsible. Legitimate companies will never ask for your personal information over the phone or online and will never pressure you in to making a decision. Never give out your personal information such as your name and date of birth, bank and account details. Criminals use this information for fraudulent purposes and generally want access to your accounts or may use your details to apply for credit or opening up a line of credit. Be smart and keep safe and if in doubt contact a friend, colleague or Police for advice. Please contact me for further information on either operation SNAP or Neighbourhood Support. If I cannot help you directly, I will put you in contact with your local Police Liaison Officer for assistance.

directly from charging station operators such as Charge net and Vector. EVRoam then shares this information out as widely as possible, to dozens of other websites and apps, so that drivers can receive reliable data on charging stations through all channels.
EVRoam is a live database, collated by the NZ Transport Agency from real-time data fed
“This is about giving people the practical tools to confidently drive an electric car right

“The real-time data will be made available on the Agency’s journey planner website, and to other third-party platforms like Google Maps, TomTom and the Automobile Association’s website. “There are currently 117 active rapid charging stations nationwide, a further 19 under construction, and 42 planned sites.
“We now have electric vehicle rapid charging stations every 75km on almost 80 percent of the state highway network, which is a huge achievement. “Initiatives like this are part of the Government’s commitment to making sustainable transport an easy option for all New Zealanders,” said Ms Genter.

Bhartiya Samaj Celebrates Matariki
Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust (BSCT) celebrated Matariki on July 14, 2018 and it was a great honor to have Mãori Community Elder, Helene to grace the occasion with her esteemed presence. She addressed the entire audience and patiently explained the meaning of Matariki with its true significance in the lives of Mãoris. Matariki is the Mãori name for the cluster of stars that rises in mid-winter and for many Mãori, it heralds the start of a new year. Traditionally, it has been a time for celebrating new life and planting new crops. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again as a cross-cultural celebration. Our regular Senior Citizen’s Meeting followed this and there was a visible increase in the attendance
by our endearing members. The day commenced with a stupendous performance by our several senior member participants based on “The 1970s Bollywood Theme”. It was truly delightful to watch these 2-minute stints in the form of dialogues, dance performances and acts from each participant that made us travel back in time and took us back to yesteryears. The entire audience applauded their performances and as a token of appreciation our respected panel of judges felicitated the top performers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was yet another fun-filled eventful day that kept the entire audience glued to their seats. It was delightful to see everyone smile and look forward to more entertainment.

Local Stories Local government support on waste welcome Local government leadership is crucial to turn around New Zealand’s approach to waste, Associate Environment Minister Eugenie Sage says. Today at its AGM and conference Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) voted to support several proposals to tackle recycling and waste problems, including calling for strong Government leadership. “I welcome local government's support and leadership on the pressing issue of waste reduction. Work is underway in the Ministry for the Environment in the areas identified by LGNZ,” Eugenie Sage said. “Since becoming Associate Environment Minister with responsibility for waste I have heard loud and clear that New Zealanders want leadership in this space. “China’s ban on importing recyclables is creating challenges and opportunities
internationally and in New Zealand. “New Zealand was sending 15 million kg overseas annually – mainly mixed paper and mixed plastics. China’s ban means that prices for the recyclable material in remaining markets have dropped dramatically. Sending our waste overseas is not the answer. “A taskforce has been set up in the Ministry for the Environment to work alongside councils and recycling businesses and processors. One of its first actions is an urgent review of our collection and processing services for recyclables. “The Government is using funds from the waste levy on landfills to invest in projects to reduce waste volumes and increase our onshore processing capacity. “Officials are also working on how to better implement the Waste Minimisation Act, including expanding the waste levy to more landfills,

restructuring to cost over 140 jobs
and improving the data we have on recyclables and waste generally. “Work is also underway on how to reduce the environmental harm of products, such as end of life tyres. A mandatory product stewardship scheme would see producers, retailers and consumers all helping fund and deal with the problem. “We know single use plastic bags are a problem, with an estimated 1.5 billion plastics bags used each year in New Zealand. “I applaud councils for their practical commitment to phasing out single use plastic bags and straws at council facilities and events. How the Government intends to deal with single use plastic bags will be announced in coming months.”

New Zealand’s biggest retail giant is in process of restructuring store leadership which may result in loss of over 140 jobs. According to The Warehouse Chief Executive Pejman Okhovat the first of its kind change in 15 years would result in job losses across its 92 stores and it would lead in increased
staffing levels at peak hours, better leadership support during trading hours, improved sick and holiday cover and betterdefined career pathways for the team members. According to him, the company would try to re-deploy as many team members as possible into vacant roles, but it was
expected to be between 120 and 140 fewer full time equivalent roles. The new structure should be in place early next month.First Union said workers would have to reapply for their jobs over the next few weeks, before finding out if they will be made redundant.

No end to the unkind cuts in health
New Zealanders are right to wonder when the stream of cuts by stealth in the health sector will come to a halt under the shaky leadership of Health Minister David Clark. There have been cuts for the young, cuts for the old, cuts for people with rare diseases, cuts in mental health and cuts for New Zealanders needing cochlear implants. This begs the question: how many more of these cuts will there be? Just last weekend, we heard that a universally-supported pilot to improve the response of 111 mental health calls has been scrapped for the sake of just $8 million. This decision, on top of the events of recent weeks, has made clear just how vague the coalition Government’s plan
is around the health sector and how quick they have been to backtrack on election promises. After campaigning on pumping record amounts into health, they came up badly short when the books were opened for Budget 2018. It’s beggar’s belief that Labour spent less in this year’s Budget than National spent in last year’s Budget. They pledged $774 million after our National-led Government added $888 million in new funding in 2017, and the $10 cheaper GP fees visits for all New Zealanders was missing.
This decision, which hadn’t even been approved by the Government Ministers, will cost lives if the focus and public scrutiny on better, faster healthcare in specific areas is lessened. As bad as these outcomes are for Kiwis, the nurses’ strike last week – the first in thirty years - had significant implications for patients of our national health system. Elective surgeries that were cancelled include cardiac surgery, surgeries for cancer and joint replacements. These patients may have been waiting some
time for their procedures and they could now be pushed back with a knock-on effect on all elective surgeries or those who missed out may even be bumped to the bottom of the list. We simply don’t know, because the Minister hasn’t spoken up. Now there is concern that further disruptive strikes are looming after the nurses’ organisation has said that further action will happen if additional funding isn't made available following the strike – which the Government hasn’t done.
It's a callous and disgraceful decision which is going to see people lose their hearing when they don't need to. National last year boosted the number of funded cochlear implants for adults, having previously sped up access to implants for children. They’ve also broken their election promise to establish a fund to pay for drugs for treatments for people with rare diseases. When you add in the Minister’s handling of management and board issues at the Counties Manukau District Health Board, it’s clear he is making a mess in health and New Zealanders are paying the price.

by Michael Wood, MP for Mt Roskill Michael Wood, MP for Mount Roskill hosted a Seniors’ Forum on Thursday 19 July to local seniors to inform them about new government initiatives for seniors. The forum was held at the Dominion Road School in Mt Roskill. A diverse group of seniors from the area attended the forum. There were many from Indian and Chinese communities as well as many local seniors. Michael opened the forum speaking about the Positive Ageing strategy and how New Zealand would have over 1 million seniors in 2028 and how a quarter of the population is envisaged to consist of seniors by 2038. He mentioned that the Positive Ageing consultation is continuing until 24 August and how people could provide their input on www.Superseniors.msd.govt.nz/ ageingpopulation This payment goes to everyone on National Superannuation or a main benefit. A payment of $20 a week for singles and #32 a week for couples will be paid over July/August /September in 2018 and from May to September from 2019. This is an automatic payment and there is no need to apply.
Warming up Kiwi homes was a topic which was of interest to many of the attendees. The government’s new Warmer Kiwi Homes insulation grants will fund up to 2/3 of the cost of insulation for home owners. This grant is targeted to low decile areas, people with health issues and for those with community services cards. From 1 July 2019, the new Healthy Homes standards for rental properties will kick in and homes will have to meet the new higher standards before being tenanted. MP Wood, also discussed elder abuse in the community, which sadly is a real problem in our community with up to 10 in 1 seniors maybe affected. Abuse is more likely to be from a family member and could be physical, financial or emotional. If you think anyone is being abused, please reach out and support them. You can talk to the Police, Age Concern, and advice is also available from the Office for Seniors Helpline on 0800 32 668 65 Michael also provided some top tips for a warmer home this winter such as getting your hot water cylinder wrapped, trimming back trees that block the sun, using good quality thermal curtains,
opening your windows for 20 minutes each day and also borrowing a free insulation kit from any library to test your home for insulation. The group also enjoyed some beautiful music by Violinist Joy and morning tea. If you have any feedback or want to discuss issues, please get in touch with me or our team.

International News Hoping for an 'extraordinary relationship' with Russia: Trump United States President Donald Trump met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Presidential Palace here on Monday, marking the official beginning of the summit between the two leaders. As the two presidents exchanged pleasantries, both sat down, with Trump starting to make statements. Praising Russia for successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup tournament, Trump said, "I would like to congratulate you on a very great world cup. It was one of the best ever. I watched the entire final and the semi-finals. They were spectacular games." The US President noted that he would be talking about "good things" during his one-on-one talks with Putin.
Trump added: "We have a lot of good things to talk about. We will have discussions on everything from trade to military to missiles to nuclear (weapons) to China. We will be talking a little bit about China, our mutual friend, President Xi (Jinping). I think we have great opportunities together. Frankly, we have not been getting along very well for the last number of years. I think we will end up having an extraordinary relationship."
After Trump's statements, he and Putin shook hands before the media. The two leaders are now holding a 90 minute one-on-one talks.
He further said that the world wanted Washington D.C. and Moscow to get along.
The meeting took place in the background of allegations of Russia's meddling in the 2016 US presidential election. It also came after the US Department of Justice indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for conspiring to hack into the Democrats' computers and steal documents and interfering in the election campaign, as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Calling nuclear weapons a "bad thing," Trump said, "We are two great nuclear powers. It's a bad thing. Hopefully, we can do something about it. It's not a positive force, it's a negative force.
Calling the meeting a "historic progress", then US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said the summit helped in promoting the reduction of nuclear arms, economic cooperation
with Russia and improvement of security situation in Europe. It is to be noted that relations between the US and Russia are greatly strained due to the crisis in Ukraine, Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2015, differences regarding Russian military intervention in the Syrian civil war, and the alleged Russian meddling in 2016 US presidential election.

Business The Real-Estate Corner The winter chill has impacted real estate sales volumes across the country in June but has done little to halt price rises in most regions, according to the latest data from the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ). In June the median price across the country rose by 5.7% to a record equal median of $560,000 up from $530,000 the same time last year.
The New Zealand excluding Auckland median price remained at a record equalling figure of $460,000 in June up 7.0% on June 2017. However, Auckland’s median price decreased by 0.7% year-on-year to $850,000 down from $856,000 last year. New Zealand’s most expensive three territorial authorities are Auckland City with a median of $1,010,000, North Shore City with a median of $975,000 and Queenstown Lake District with a median of $908,000.
The number of properties available for sale nationally decreased by 3.8% from 23,507 to 22,605 – a decrease of 902 properties compared to 12 months ago. This is the lowest level of inventory for 9 months (since September 2017). Auckland’s annual inventory decreased by 2.4% ( from 8,560 to 8,356 – 204 fewer properties) – the lowest level of inventory for 9 months.
The lack of housing supply continues to put pressure on prices in the majority of regions across New Zealand, with 12 out of 16 regions seeing a price increase since June last year. Until supply issue is resolved, house prices are likely to continue rising, particularly as the OCR remains low and the banks continue dropping interest rates. There seems to be a two-tier market across the country where prices are remaining strong and stable in Auckland and Canterbury but rising in most other parts of the country.
The REINZ House Price Index for New Zealand, which measures the changing value of property in the market, increased 3.8% year-on-year to 2,706. The Auckland HPI increased 0.9% yearon-year to 2,883 showing that despite the annual decrease in median price the market is still in a strong position. Auckland saw the median number of days to sell a property increase by 2 days to 40 days (up from 38 in June 2017), but it remained the same as last month. Auckland saw the second largest percentage of auctions on 21% (386 properties) down from 24% in June 2017 (446 properties) a
A tip for sellers – There are two important aspects in preparing the house for a sale, the inside and the outside. Unless there is a major project involved on the outside of the house, it is best to start from the inside and save the outside for last. There are two
main reasons for focussing on the inside first. Firstly, preparing the interior of the house is easier and secondly it helps develop the proper mind set required for selling - beginning to think of your "home" as a marketable commodity. However, the exterior is the most important aspect. A homebuyer’s first impression is based on his or her view of the house from their car. They call that first impression the "curb appeal."
In the real estate industry, it’s not always about selling today, tomorrow or even next month. Sometimes you just need a little advice from the trusted professional who has a sound knowledge of the market. I understand this! Business “AIM is a cash-flow game changer,”
says Inland Revenue Customer Segment Leader Richard Owen.
More than 1,100 customers have opted for more certainty around their provisional tax obligations by signing up for the new Accounting Income Method (AIM).“AIM is a cash-flow game changer,” says Inland Revenue Customer Segment Leader Richard Owen. “Our analysis of early adopters shows they’re coming from the types of industries we thought would benefit from AIM.
with annual turnover under $5 million and means they only need to be pay provisional tax when a profit is made. It also reduces exposure to penalties and interest since it provides a more accurate calculation. Mr Owen says AIM is a brand-new tax approach that represents a completely different way of working so it is pleasing to see so many keen early adopters.
“If AIM proves to be the game changer for the early adopters that we think it will be, then we can expect many more customers will want to get on board.” Auckland accountant Raquel Withers from Balance My Books is one of AIM’s foundation customers. She says the benefits of AIM were obvious but whether it was going to work smoothly was the big question.
“We’re seeing builders, plumbers, mechanics, café owners and doctors using AIM as their provisional tax method of choice. These are the same businesses that we found traditionally overpaid their tax. They will now benefit from payments that better reflect their cash flow.”
“We think that uptake will build steadily as more businesses adopt accounting software and embrace the opportunity to make their tax obligations simpler. “Often people don’t rush into new services like this. The first year of filing GST through software attracted fewer than 2,000 customers – today it’s more than 85,000.
“I found AIM really easy to use. There was some initial set up time because it was a new process, but we regularly update our clients’ accounts anyway, which meant adjustments for things like depreciation and private expenditure were already considered. “Filing my first statements of activity still ended up being much simpler and quicker than I
AIM is available for small businesses
thought. “I like how AIM takes the guess work out of provisional tax and substantially lowers the risk of under or over payment. “Mr Owen says Inland Revenue will be working with customers throughout the year along with the software providers so that the product can keep being improved. Registrations are now closed for the current tax year, but newly established businesses are still eligible to join AIM at any time. Legislation currently before parliament proposes allowing existing businesses to join during the tax year as well.
Housing Market News-looks promising It has been an eventual few weeks with big strides forward happening with the KiwiBuild project that will be the first true test of the new government’s radical plans around housing. The winter chill has also played a factor in the slow decrease of Auckland property prices, which are reaching new lows.
The First Kiwi Build Houses Built
According to information from Housing NZ Corporation, the prices are set for selling two-bedroom homes at $499,000, three-bedrooms for $579,000 and fourbedrooms for $649,000. The government announced that income caps for applicants will be set at $120,000 for sole purchasers and $180,000 for couples, and that mortgage providers will still apply the standard loan criteria for applicants, meaning between 10 and 20% deposit criteria.
The biggest news of the month is the buzz around KiwiBuild, one of the government’s biggest initiatives around solving the issue of housing affordability in New Zealand. Housing New Zealand Corporation announced the the first eighteen Kiwi build homes are up and will be completed next month on the first South Auckland site, and hope to have families moving in by October.
Over six thousand people had applied for the scheme within the first day of applications being opened which really highlights the demand for affordable housing in the country. To be eligible for the ballot, you must meet the aforementioned income caps and be a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident and intend to own and live in the property for the first three years.
This is a big move for the government who have held by strong on this plan, despite strong concern from the opposition, and is the first strong evidence of the governments massive plan to build one hundred thousand affordable quality homes in a decade.
Auckland Housing Prices Down
Here’s what’s happening in your local market:
It seems that the winter chill is beginning to affect the housing market as the national asking price is now down 4.2%, the average asking price last month was $645,133, compared to $658,170 in May and $661,129 in April. This has seemed to be an ongoing trend in Auckland which
has been on a slow but steady decline since February’s peak of $994,873 which is down 8.3% to $912,071 in June – the lowest it has been since July last year. There has also been a decline in properties being listed which could be a result of many waiting until the
summer before listing and testing the waters of the new government, historically the property market does see a small rise in the summer, so it will be interesting to see what comes to be in the next four months.

“LOVE ALL - SERVE ALL” The Universal Message of Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Government tries building
momentum through Kiwi Build Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phil Twyford, announced the much-anticipated eligibility criteria for Kiwi Build houses on 4th July, citing some important points, the most important being the income threshold of $120,000 for the sole purchaser and $180,000 for a couple. Apart from being a first home buyer or even a second chancer the person/persons have to be a permanent resident or citizen, he or she must be intending to live in that house for at least three years. It seems like a perfect start for the Labour-led government in their pursuit to achieve their target of 100,000 affordable homes. Mr. Twyford also announced that his announcement starts the Kiwi Build home programme officially. The government aims to make 1000 home under Kiwi Build in the first year and to reach 5000 homes by the year 2020 to reach their target of 100,000 Kiwi Build homes. The Minister also admitted that people below these incomes are still struggling to buy a house in high demand areas like Auckland and Queenstown. Contrary to governments price tag of $500,000 to $650,000 for one to four-bed room houses, this house in Special Housing Area in Queenstown has been sold for $890,000 last week only, so we have to wait and watch as how good will be the control of the Minister or his department to check this inflation. When Queenstown Mayor was asked about this house sale, he showed his ignorance about this price tag and shrugged off by saying the government can only provide or build homes in these areas, but the purchasers can still sell it in open market to a higher bidder. The Opposition is still very critical and quite sceptical about government’s ambitious target of 100,000 houses in 10 years’ time, citing the amount of time it may take in getting consents from the respective councils and then creating the infrastructure in the new SHAs. Off the 100,000 targeted houses 50,000 are to be built in Auckland alone. Government plans to transform the building and housing sector, and drive innovation to develop new ways to build quality, affordable homes. As, we have seen in the last decade the demand for housing in New Zealand has out stripped supply. Prices were increasing, and homeownership rates were falling. There is a huge unmet need for affordable homes for the first-time home buyers which the market has not been delivering. There is also a need to encourage innovation and productivity in the sector. The good news for the government is that over 15,000 people have had already registered themselves for the Kiwi Build homes and the work is in full swing in the most demand areas in Auckland already. Government initiatives are bringing together industry leaders from across the building, planning, property, manufacturing, and development sector to discuss Kiwi Build. The main areas which are seeing the action in Auckland are Mt Albert-Unitech Campus where 29.6-hectare land has been acquired to build thousands of houses and another 400 getting built in Northcote suburb with which the Minister announced to kick off the Kiwi Build homes programme. The question remains about the special housing area process and its outcomes for everyday New Zealanders, but the Government is not willing to provide them. - Yugal Parashar

Sports Truly outstanding - New Zealand
RWC Sevens champions, 2018 both in Men & Women The crowd at AT&T Park in San Francisco were then treated to the Black Ferns Sevens' spine-tingling haka in celebration of a fifth title in as many sevens events after success at the Commonwealth Games and the final three rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series. New Zealand, who had ended the hopes of host nation USA in the semi-finals, enjoyed
the perfect start when Michaela Blyde raced away for her seventh try of the tournament after some good work by Tyla Nathan-Wong.
France were unable to find a way through the resolute New Zealand defence and it was left to Blyde to score two quick-fire tries to put the finishing touch on their 27th consecutive victory
and pull clear of USA speedster Naya Tapper in the race for the HSBC Top Try Scorer award. “We had one goal and that was to take the trophy back and I can’t wait to go home and show it to the New Zealand public.” New Zealand created history at AT&T Park on Sunday with their 33-12 victory
France's FIFA win an end of immigration debates? With France winning its second FIFA World Cup title after defeating Croatia 4-2 in a high-octane final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, it has not only put an end to its 20-yearlong itch for the triumph but also the debate over colour of players. With the majority of its team's 23 players being either immigrants or the children of immigrants, France, at least for the time being, would shut the ugly discussions on immigration. Footballer Kylian Mbappe, who emerged as the French hero of the World Cup, is the son of immigrants from Algeria and Cameroon. Similarly, footballer Paul Pogba was also raised by immigrant parents in Paris. N'Golo Kante, who plays as a defensive midfielder for the France national team is the son of immigrants from Mali
while Blaise Matuidi, a central midfielder of the team, is the son of an Angolan father and a Congolese mother. Another player Samuel Umtiti is the Cameroon-born defender while Steve Mandanda was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The victory of France football team that includes mostly immigrants or children of immigrants would let the boys be hailed as heroes in a country that has always witnessed a strained relationship with its North African minority. The boys could be touted as role models for young people of Arab and African backgrounds in France's seedy suburbs. Due to the team's victory the debates as to how to tackle the influx of migrants from Africa, how to deal with crime in the suburbs, or how to reduce unemployment among ethnic
minorities might also take a backseat. Twenty years after winning its first FIFA World Cup in 1998 as an 'underdog', France on Sunday repeated history in Russia as the world favourites defeated Croatia 4-2. Carrying huge expectations on its shoulders, the French side didn't have an easy run at the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup, despite being beefed up with a list of top football club players including Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Paul Pogba (Manchester United), N'Golo Kante (Chelsea), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur), Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona), Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich), Blaise Matuidi (Juventus) and Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain).
...Continued from P1
over England making them not only the first nation to win back-to-back Rugby World Cup Sevens titles but also the first to lift the Melrose Cup on three occasions. The victory also ensured that just as in Moscow five years ago, New Zealand completed the double with the Black Ferns Sevens having won the women's crown on Saturday evening in San Francisco.
