"The way of the hanged" In the old San Juan de Dios Hospital, nurses took care for patients, whose had a disease called “leprosy”. Despite being exposed to contagion, Ana María liked to take care for those patients. After completing her workday, she used to go to the mountain behind the hospital to spend her free time. One day she met Luis Felipe, a young man who studied law, and they immediately fell in love. Two years later, while she made her nails, a nail came off without hurt. So, she realized that she was infected of leprosy. Desperate, she ran to the hill behind the hospital, wrote a letter: “Forgive me Luis Felipe, for the pain I am going to cause you, but I can not seclude myself to die of leprosy nor condemn you to look at that torture. Goodbye my love. I wait for you in eternity. Ever thine. Ana María”. Then she took a rope and tied one end to the branch of a tree and the other to her neck and launched herself into the void. Minutes later, Luis Felipe arrived and upon seeing his beloved dead, he read the letter and decided to do the same as his beloved. Since then it was called "The way of the hanged" and almost nobody dared to cross over there, especially during midnight because it was said that two ghosts ran and played on that road.
