1. Where is the institute located? The W. Edwards Deming Institute is located in Washington, D.C. and was founded in 1993. 2. What is the Deming prize and how did it come about? The Deming prize is an award given to outstanding companies with advancements in quality control i.e. total quality management, and total quality control. This prize came about after the war (December 1950), the prize was originally intended for Japan, but has since become a competition for overseas companies as well.

4. Summarize the lead story from the most recent issue of Deming Interaction. H. Thomas Johnson was awarded the 2007 Deming medal by the American Society for Quality at its World Congress on Quality and Improvement in Houston, May 5. This was awarded because Thomas could successfully apply statistical thinking and management and thus enhance quality in products and services. Thomas was also named one of the top 200 managers by Harvard. His current focus right now is applying natural living system principles to the design of ecologically-focused local business. 5. What kind of music did Deming write? Deming wrote mainly composed pieces of music by a orchestra; he created mainly religious-style music.
