The rainy season will not be over till the staging of the Philippine Orchid Society’s 63rd Midyear Orchid and Garden Show, which is commonly held at the Orchidarium Park, Lagoon Area, Quezon City Hall grounds, East Avenue corner Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City. With this season’s theme: “Orchids for Health and Wellness” , the 12-days show started last August 27, run till September 7, 2009. Bautista during the awarding ceremony of the 63rd Mid-Year Orchid and Garden Show which runs until September 07, 2009. This garden event is already a horticultural tradition in the metropolis to celebrate the blooming of one of our prestigious Philippine orchid species, the Waling-Waling or Vanda sanderiana, during the August-September season . It is also a way for the society to promote orchid growing and gardening among Filipinos, not to mention supporting the local orchid industry through staging of the regular landscape exhibits, plant competition, trade show and daily lectures. Like a beauty pageant competition, the plants are the superstars in this show, and their awards will be carried by their name, especially when these plants will be used as parents in orchid hybridization in the future. With events like this, garden enthusiasts, landscapers and breeders are inspired to do better in their work in growing their plants better and producing new orchid hybrids.
