The Temple of Prayer had Turned into a Den of Thieves Matthew 21: 12‐17 1.
For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations <13a, Isaiah 56: 7> a. The origin of the temple: The altar of Abraham Æ Moses’ Tabernacle Æ David’s Tent Æ Solomon’s Temple. b. The importance of the temple doesn’t lie in the building structure or methods of ceremonial worship, but in our practical communication with God. i. When Abraham calls to the name of God Jehovah, God reveals to him
. ii. Moses builds the tabernacle according to God’s instruction and God said to him: “where I will meet you to speak with you” <Exodus 29: 42>. iii. God Jehovah spoke to David: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?” <2 Samuel 7: 5>. iv. Solomon said: “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O LORD my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You today: that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My name shall be there...'” <1 Kings 8: 27‐28>. c. What are the objectives of God calling the Israelites to build the holy temple: i. To remind Israel not to forget the God whom had promised Abraham and his descendants that God is with them = the one and only objective in life: the gospelization of personal, family, area and the entire world. ii. To remind Israel not to forget the God whom had brought them out of Egypt to the land of Canaan that God is with them = The guiding principles of faith: Exiling from Egypt (reborn), the crossing of the Red Sea (baptism / victory), the construction of the tabernacle (communicating with God), the journey through the wilderness (walking with God), the concurring of the land of Canaan (delivering the Gospel). iii. To call Israel’s spirit and honest offerings (5 offerings) to revive a new life, a holy life, a harmonious relationship with God (loving God), a harmonious relationship with people (loving people), giving thanks to all things (being able to see the evidences of God and that they are blessed everywhere they go) and the hope towards eternal. iv. The 12 tribes (body of Christ) must comply in unison with each other, serving God in one accord of heart and strength, praising God with their mouth and heart, blessing each other, using evidences and promises to nature the descendants and manifesting God’s abundance graces and glory through the Kingdom of Israel. v. In order for nation of Israel to see how God has treated Israel with care, so that they will come of Jerusalem to see the true glory of the only God, to bless the nation of saints, to ask (the gospel of salvation, God’s perfect plan, God’s perfect will in all things), to bless all the entire nation.

‐‐ Actually, the place where people trade in the template is supposed to be the courtyard for the gentiles (a place to salvage the gentiles) . d. Whenever the saints whom are called to be blessed calls upon the name of God Jehovah according to the objectives of why the temple is constructed, the glory of God will be revealed to them i. Abraham’s Altar ii. Moses’ Tabernacle <Exodus 40: 34‐38>. iii. David’s tent <2 Samuel 6: 1‐7: 29>. iv. Solomon’s Temple <1 Kings 8: 1‐9: 9>. v. Every time when Israel revives the temple. e. For the life of a saint is also considered to be the holy temple (the vassal of the Holy Spirit) and the place where all saints are gathered (the church) is also considered to be the holy temple <1 Cor 3: 16, Matt 16: 16‐19, John 4: 24, Acts 1: 1‐14, 2: 41‐47> This house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you <13b, Jeremiah 7: 11> Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves… a. The source of the fall of the temple was caused by the fall of the leaders (from Gospel to religion) – The leaders at that time are important figures. ** The profits from trading doves and money exchange belonged to the leaders of the temple. i. The chief priest – Sadducees (they do not believe in life eternal and the spiritual realm). ii. The Pharisees, the scribes – people who dwells in legalism and hypocrisy. iii. The Herodians – people who involve in politics and methodologies of worldly success. iv. The Canaanites – they were revolutionary socialist. ** The religious leaders themselves were already separated with God and they have no idea about the meaning of being born again <John 3: 1‐18>. Therefore, they could not teach properly about how God had been and always will be with Israel and the promises for God to Abraham and David, which had been accomplished in Israel at that time. All these are the key content in our spiritual life…; Therefore, Christ condemned them as Satan’s children. b. As a result, the worship in the temple had shifted their focus to hypocrisy, mysticism and legalism. There were no ways revive a person’s life, strength to live and evidences of God. i. If the way of worship did not began from knowing our selves whom were call to be blessed by the promises of God, worship will become a hypocritical religious activity. ii. People only knew that they must worship God. But they do not know how to see God in all things, how to communicate with God and how to follow God. iii. People only knew about the rituals of the 5 offerings (burnt offering, grain offering, peace offering, sin offering and trespass offering) and they only pray about forgiveness of sin and self blessedness (which are selfish). But they do not know how they could be born again, repent and be sanctified, live harmoniously and walk along side with God.

Therefore, they cannot see how God is with them, how God guide, love, help and the accomplishments of God in them every day. The only things which they did were to oblige in the written law, festive days and outer presentation; but they did not preserve a heart who loves God. They always carried a heart which fears the Lord. They accuse themselves and judge others. v. There were much confusion in their own lives, family, relationships, which results division in the country and the society of Israel. Therefore, Israel has lost its strength and power, which causes the gentiles to venture into Israel, bringing their own gods (devil) and those were being accepted by the Israelites. vi. Thus, the temple of Israel had lost the glory of God, and the Israelites have lost their confidences in the temple. They do not tithe and make offerings. As a result, the Levites left their duty and the holy temple and worked in the agricultural fields . The holy temple has lost its content and meaning. vii. In the history of Israel, all of the revival movements began with the revival of the holy temple. For every revival movement, it began with the understanding of their race as a chosen and blessed race, and the remembrance of Moses’ books of law (the book of promise). c. The condition of the holy temple in a believer will reflect his/her eye sight, words, attitudes and actions; When we observe a person’s words, attitude, life style, relationships, we can understand the condition of their holy temple within them. If we observe how a group of believers behave, we could gauge the degree of blessedness in the grace of God in their church. How will the master Jesus Christ revive the holy temple? <14‐17> Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?” Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there. a. Jesus Christ is the master of the holy temple i. He is the one who inherits the spiritual content of the holy temple. ii. He also re‐constructs the new temple in our spirit. iii. He is also the One who brings the Eternal Kingdom to us. ** Lord Jesus Christ has never ceased to sanctify the holy temple from the days of Adam until today. b. Therefore, for the saints whom receive Lord Jesus Christ, they will have to: i. Turn their lives into a holy temple = the spirit (most holy place), the soul (holy place), the body (the outer court). ii. Receives the spiritual content and meaning of Abraham, Moses and David’s holy temple = understand the objectives of why God called the Israelites to build a holy temple. iii. Reconstruct ourselves in Jesus Christ (the spirit’s castle) = using Jesus Christ’s teaching, accomplishments and words to rebuild (the system of life) iv. Have unceasing communication with all believers in order to expand the Kingdom of Heaven = having the body of Christ and the church as the center of focus.

When Christ Jesus brings forth the eternal kingdom, we will receive it together. According to the spiritual fruits which we yield, it will be our rewards and the crown of glory. We will rejoice with the Lord and govern all things with the Lord. New things will happen… Most importantly, we have to understand our own holy temple’s condition. i. Are we always joyful, giving thanks to all things and never ceased our prayers to God? <1 Thessalonians 5: 16‐19> ‐ This is the result of knowing the true Gospel in Christ and it is also the will which was decided by God in Christ Jesus. ‐ Most importantly, we have to grab whole of the secrets of being able to be joyful, giving thanks and having a good communication with others. = This is the secret of a reconstructed spiritual temple/castle within us in Christ Jesus. ii. Do we pray in morning and night (having a fix time in prayer) in order to cleanse and strengthen our own holy temple? iii. In our prayer life style, we will also discover that at certain times, a focus prayer is required at the right time. Through this, we’ll obtain a holy church which is called to be blessed and we should expand our content of life, family, career and service to the Lord i. The pure Gospel of Jesus Christ. ii. The vision of the 4 gospelizations. iii. Harmonious fellowship and unceasing prayer. iv. The evidence of Immanuel in everything we do. v. Continuously expand the works of delivering the Gospel to local and other places.
