THE OFFSPRING is an American rock band formed in Huntington Beach, California around 1984. The Offspring´s line-up has included Dexter Holland (lead vocals and guitar), Noodles (lead and rhythm guitar and backing vocals), and, formerly, Ron Welty (drums and percussion). The Offspring´s first album was The Offspring (1989). Since then, they have recorded seven albums more, such as Ignition (1992), Smash (1994), Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) and more. Their third album, Smash, became their first bestseller. It has sold more than 10,000,000 copies, so they were awarded a platinum disc. Because of that, they have become one of the best-known bands in the world. Some of their hits are these: The Kid Aren´t All Right, Want You Bad, Hit That, All I Want, Self-Esteem, and Come Out and Play. ADIRAN BILBAO
THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS are an American pop girl group. When they sing and dance in public, they rouse the male audience. This band was founded by choreographer Robin Antin. The group originated in Los Angeles, California, in1995. The singers are Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar. They have become very famous and have also appeared in a lot of reality TV programmes. The Pussycat Dolls released their first album PCD in 2005, which became number five in the US. The hits of PDC were Don´t Cha, Buttons, and Stickwitu, which gave them a Grammy Award nomination. BARRICADA was formed in 1983 in Arrasate, a town in the centre of Gipuzkoa. The group was formed when four friends decided to begin playing music. The members of the band are Enrike, “el Drogas” (bass and lead vocals), Javier and Peli (guitars and back vocals) and Raul (drums). Barricada play punk rock and they criticise politics and the state of society. Their first album was released in 1983, and its name was Esqueletos Radioactivos. Their first single was Balas Blancas in 1986. After their first album, Barricada released 20 more albums, and all of them were very successful. Among them, however, the best was Esta Es una Noche de Rock & Roll. Some of their best-known songs are Rojo, No Hay Tregua, En Blanco y Negro, and Víctima. Last year, to celebrate their 25th anniversary, Barricada started a tour throughout Spain with Rosendo and Aurora Beltrán. They played, for example, in places like Anoeta or Las Ventas in Madrid. BLINK 182 is an American rock band which was formed in California in 1992. In the beginning, they were called Blink but they changed their name to Blink 182 because there was another band called Blink, so they decided to add the number 182. The original members were Tom DeLonge (vocals and guitar), Mark Hoppus (vocals and bass), and Scott Raynor (drums), but after they released their first album, the drummer left the band because he was an alcoholic. So, when they finished the tour, Travis Barker, another drummer, replaced Scott. In the following year, the band was very successful, but, in 2005, the band separated and they formed two bands. One was formed by Mark and Travis, which was called +44, while Tom formed his own band, Angels and Airwaves. However, on
5th February in the Grammy Awards, when they were given the best Rock Band Award, they said that they would come back. Their first album was in 1994; it was called Cheshire Cot. With this CD, they achieved their first success. Their second album was produced in 1997; it was called Dude Rock. Their third and fourth album were in 1997 and 2003; they were called Enema of the State and Blink 182, which was their last album. THE POLICE was formed in London in 1977. The original members were Sting (bass guitar and lead vocals), Andy Summers (guitar and vocals) and Stewart Copeland (drums, vocals and percussion) Most of the songs were written by Sting. Their first album, Outlandos dÁmour, was released in November 1978. Their second album, Reggatta de Blanc, was awarded a platinum disc in 1979. Their five albums have been great hits, even the last one was awarded eight platinum discs. The Police have sold more than fifty albums worldwide and they have been awarded two Brit and six Grammy Awards The Police played rock, influenced by jazz, punk and reggae music. Some of their best-known songs are Every Breath You Take, Message in a Bottle and Roxanne. The band broke up in 1984, but they reunited in 2007 for a one –off world tour. Last summer they came to Bilbao and played in Kobetasonik Festival. They also played in Madrid, in Rock in Rio Festival. ZALOA FERNÁNDEZ
MAREA was born in Navarra in 1987. The people who make up the band are Kutxi Romero (lead vocals), Javi Fernández (guitar) and Iñaki (bass guitar). The other members of the band are not always mentioned because every year new drummers come to the group. In 1991 Marea had very good lyrics, like Puta, an album that they made talking about the politics and people in Navarra and the Basque Country. They became famous playing in concerts before important bands as support artists. People started liking them since they recorded their first album in 1992. Listeners of Marea bought the CD very fast. They sold more than a million and a half copies. However, all of their albums have not been successful because each album talks about different issues. Marea is, originally, rock music and has got really good songs like Standby Puta or Jesucristo García. The official concerts were played in Spain but, after that, they went to South America to continue the tour. Nowadays Marea has got a lot of fans and good lyrics played with the best instruments. RBD was formed in Mexico in 2004. The members of the group are Anahí Puente, Alfonso Herrera, Christopher Uckermann, Dulce María, Christian Chavez and Maite Perroni. All of them are vocals, Chistopher also plays the drums and Alfonso the guitar. This band was originated in the serial Rebelde. The Mexican director Pedro Damián started filming it in Mexico in 2001, and the members of the band were also the actors of the serial. It is about some teenagers that study in an elitist school. They are friends and they form a musical group. The serial was on in Spain in 2003.
Their first album was released in 2004 with the song Rebelde, the soundtrack of the serial. At the beginning of 2006 they released their second album, Celestial. With it, they won the Billboards and they were awarded the Latin grammies. In January 2008, they released their last album Empezar desde Cero. They have sold a lot of copies with all their albums.
