MULTIPLICATION
Introduction Read Matt 14:13-21. (Parallel passages Mk 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, Jn 6:1-13) This story of the feeding of the 5,000 is the only miracle story of Jesus that is recorded in all for gospels. If Jesus had wanted to prove his divinity or authenticate that He is the incarnate God of Israel, he could have called heaven to rain down manna or quails on the people. Instead, He chose to involve his disciples in this miracle of multiplication. For, the year 2006, we believe the challenge of the Lord is for us is to partake with him in this miracle of multiplication, not of bread and fishes, but of souls. Jesus has already commanded us to go forth and make disciples of all nations. He is always willing and wanting to partner with us. The question lies not with Him but with us. Are we ready, are we willing, do we have the pre-requisites?
Member’s Notes Learning Outcomes: Understanding, Attitude Objective: At the end of this lesson, you will be able to: • Understand the Spiritual Direction for the YA ministry in Year 2006. • Remember 5 Keys of what it takes to partake with Jesus in a miracle of multiplication. • Desire to share the Gospel with a friend and disciple someone in the ministry.
Today’s lesson will focus on what we must do to in order to be ready to partner with him in this miracle of multiplication.
I. Rekindle Our Compassion for the Lost (v 13-14) Why do you think Jesus withdrew by himself to a solitary place?
What do you think must have gone through Jesus’ heart as he saw the multitudes waiting for him? Can you define what is compassion?
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Why do you think it is necessary to have compassion for the lost? How can we rekindle our compassion for the lost?
On a scale on 1 to 10, how would you rate your compassion for the lost?
II. Recognize the Spiritual Timings of God (v15) The disciples did the right things by bringing the needs of the people to Jesus’ attention. However, they were unable to discern the spiritual timing of God for a miracle.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
Why do you think the disciples were unable to discern what Jesus was about to do?
What are some ways that can help us recognize the spiritual timings of God?

YOUNG ADULT CELLS JAN 2006 WEEK 2
III. Repossess the Great Commission in Our Lives (v16) Jesus surprised his disciples by asking them to feed the multitudes. This instruction was given in the imperative mode meaning it is a command not a suggestion. Jesus had given us the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. (Matt 28:18-20). The Great Commission is a process. Non-Believer

At what stage do you think you are at in the above process?
16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 28:18-20
How do you think you can participate in the Great Commission?
17 "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.
IV. Revalue our Resources in Him (v17)
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" John 6:5-9
Jesus worked with available resources that were given to Him. It may be 5 loaves and 2 fishes but it did feed the 5,000. From John 6:5-9, how do you think the disciples feel about their resources and task at hand?
Do you feel inadequate in serving God? What are the 5 loaves and 2 fishes that God is asking you to give to Him?
V. Rely on Him to Break and Work Through Us (v 18-21) Having a right value of the potential we have in Christ is not enough, we need to “bring them” to Jesus. It is only when the break and fishes are broken, the miracle of multiplication happened. Do you desire to partake with Jesus in this miracle of multiplication? What are some personal issues that you need Jesus to break and work through you?
What are some practical implications of partaking with Jesus in this miracle of multiplication?
18 "Bring them here to me," he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. Matt 14:13-21
