Jeremy Lamm Moyle Poetry I 8 September, 2008 The “Jabberwocky” Retold
In a land not far from yours, Was a kingdom that lived in fear Of a monster known as Jabberwock That lived in a wood so near.
The king sent many men To try their hand at the beast. The only result that ever returned: His men had become a feast.
The king’s young son then decided He’d enough of the monster’s deeds, So he set out with his trusty sword But not without his father’s heed:
“The Jabberwock will devour you whole, I beg you not to go my son.” “Don’t worry father, you have my word: I’ll return when the job is done.”
He searched for days, the demon’s den, Until in the brush, he saw two eyes of fire. Then came he, the Jabberwock Whose eyes shone with desire.
Yet, the young knight stood firm And readied to make the kill fast, The beast ran right into the gleaming blade; The threat was gone at last.
In a land not far from yours, Was a kingdom happy with relief Of a monster known as Jabberwock That would no longer cause it greif.
