We Are Loved Children of God by Rev. Chris Shorow Senior Minister

We have witnessed nothing short of a miracle this week. Our church hosted the funeral service for Dwite Morgan, the homeless man better known as “Bicycle Bob” who has captured the attention and united the hearts and minds of Edmondites like few before him. The tragedy of his murder is something that brings sorrow to all of us. However, the hope that has come out of this horror is the story of resurrection. I am proud of our church and how it stepped forward to host this unique celebration of life. To see 350 people gathered for a service for a man like Dwite was a true inspiration. I was pleased to see so much publicity come out of this, as this is a story that needs

to be told. How a community came together to nurture and support a man like Dwite, and how a church, which was not really his church home, came together and reached out to provide a meaningful good-bye. I say “not really his church home,” but really we were. Our church family is not about whether he was a member or not. It is not about whether he came to worship regularly or gave his money, it is about sharing the love of Christ with one another. Dwite experienced that love here on a regular basis. Through our members who cared for him and through Breakfast on Boulevard that fed and cared for him over the years. I wonder how many other “Dwites” there are who are feeling the benefits of our ministries? Although Dwite was nameless and faceless to many, to our city and to our community of faith, he was a loved child of God. Just like the rest of us.
