Having Fun With Our Family by Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister

What a celebration we had on Sunday night at the Follies! Many thanks to Diane and our Music Ministry for making this annual event such a wonderful time. First of all, we had a great meal. The chili was outstanding— and very creative. Thanks to all who participated because even those who did not win supplied some great food. We have excellent chefs in this church. We also have some great up-andcoming chefs—as Josh Biby demonstrated in winning the People’s Choice award for his “Root Beer” chili. The thing that really strikes me about the Follies was the diversity. We had old and young, excited and mellow, funny and touching all together. Where else in our culture do you see an older generation interacting with a younger

generation, providing wisdom and support, nurture and love? Likewise, where would you find kids entertaining people from their grandparents’ generation? From Katie Hurst and her energetic singing to Emily Gresh and Zoey Lee with their dance and hula hoop routines, we had it all. With lots of love present, also. That’s what I love about the Church, and specifically, our church. We are family. We love and support one another through the difficult times—and in the fun events. In Jesus Christ we are one.

Many thanks go out to all who have made our “Making A Difference” 2010 Annual Campaign such a success thus far! Bob Steele, campaign moderator, David Watts, campaign advisor, and Erin Robertson, promotions coordinator have been behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. Our Consecration Sunday was a wonderful celebration, and despite having horrible weather and many people out sick, we have made big steps toward reaching our goal. So far we have 191 pledges totaling almost $723,000 for our 2010 General Budget. Our Capital pledges are 134 for a total of almost $250,000. Although we are far from finished, with last year’s 270 total pledges, we are slightly ahead of last year’s numbers. If you have not already turned in your pledge, please do so as soon as possible so that we can bring our celebration home. And thank you! You are making a difference in our world—and in your faithful response to God’s overwhelming love in Jesus Christ. Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the individuals who helped make our Gratitude Celebration 2009 such a remarkable commemoration of all the ways we are making a diference! Our Gratitude To Sherry Parks

Who of us did not notice those beautiful table arrangements for World Communion and Consecration Sunday? They were so seasonal and so attractive, reflecting both the colors of Fall and our spirit of thanksgiving. We owe our sincerest gratitude for those tables and their presentation to Sherry Parks and the Worship committee. Sherry just has this wondrous gift for seeing the colors, the season, and the theme for these kinds of worship events. So, Sherry, from all of us: Thank You! Yours is a beautiful gift.

Offertory Envelopes

From the Finance Committee As our Church moves forward, items we have become accustomed to may be discontinued or changed. The Finance Committee believes our present Offertory Envelopes fall into the category of being ready to be discontinued. We plan to discontinue these envelopes starting with the 2010 Calendar Year. If you have strong feelings about discontinuing the Offertory Envelopes, please contact us at the Church with a note: Attention: Finance Committee or contact Randy Clark at 348-0893.

Making A Difference

One Shoebox and Child At A Time! On Wednesday October 28 FCC will host a packing party for Operation Christmas Child. Everyone is invited! We begin at 9:30am for set up and begin packing boxes around 10am. You may come and go as you need. We have packed 110 boxes so far this year, but we still need your help! Please bring small items like soap, toothbrushes, balls, dolls, matchbox cars, etc. to share. The shoeboxes go to children in orphanages, churches or hospitals around the world. A booklet in the child’s own language titled “The Greatest Gift” accompanies each box. As a relay center, FCC accepts filled shoeboxes from other churches and families. We are going to need help throughout the week of November 16-22 to pack boxes in cartons. The cartons will then need to be transported to Bloom Electric on Reno at Morgan Road on Saturday, Sunday and Monday Nov. 21-23. If you can help during that time, or would like more information, please contact Michele Schlough at 844-3214.
