Requirements for Graduate Application Process 1.

On-Line Application

a. A completed Apply Texas application. Apply online at www.applytexas.org. The name on your application must match your name as it appears in your passport.

b. Applicants to the Mays MBA Program should use the on-line application specific to that program by clicking here. Applicants to the Mays Graduate Programs (MS, MLERE, PHD) should use the on-line application specific to those programs by clicking here.

2. Application Fee A nonrefundable $50 application fee. The application fee may be paid by check, money order or approved credit card. Applicants who wish to pay by credit card may do so as part of the online application. If you are unable to pay the fee online, you may call the Fee Office (see Admissions Contact Information for phone number). a.

If paying by credit card: be advised that your credit card will be charged a small non-refundable transaction fee.

b.

Checks or money orders (U.S. dollars) should be made payable to Texas A&M University. Checks or money orders are accepted provided they display an agency bank in the United States and have magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) routing numbers at the bottom.

c.

The $50 fee required of U.S. citizens or permanent residents may be waived only in exceptional cases for low-income applicants and McNair Scholars. To receive the waiver, low-income applicants must submit a letter from their financial aid advisor or other officer qualified to verify financial need. McNair Scholars must submit a letter from their McNair Program Director verifying their status as a McNair Scholar in good standing to receive the fee waiver. Waiver request documentation should include the applicant's full name, address, date of birth, application semester, the name and title of the verifying officer and date of the request. Documentation should be sent to Graduate Admissions at the address listed below.

d.

The departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Chemical Engineering will pay the application fee for prospective students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the U.S., or international applicants who expect to receive a B.S. or M.S. from an accredited institution in the U.S.

3. Official Transcripts and Records To ensure that your official transcripts and other supporting documents are processed in a timely and efficient manner, please include the appropriate Document ID Sheet with all documents you submit in support of your application. a. Submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. NOTE: You do not need to submit an official transcript from Texas A&M University. b.

Institutions that use the national ANSI ASC X12 transcript format (SPEEDE) prefer to receive transcripts electronically. Many universities can use the electronic format. Electronic transcripts can be processed much faster than paper transcripts.

c. If the institution cannot use this format and you have attended an American or Canadian college or university, one official transcript is required. Please ask each registrar to enclose one copy of your transcript in a sealed, signed envelope. Please mail this envelope, with the seal unbroken and the registrar's signature intact, to the Office of Admissions and Records at the address below. 4. Test Scores Required test scores (GRE or GMAT) should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University and be from a test date within five years of the date the application form reached the Office of

Admissions and Records. Use code 6003 for reporting GRE scores (Department code not needed). Contact the department to which you are applying for information regarding the reporting of GMAT scores.

Permanent Resident Card/I-551/I-485 Permanent residents must submit a copy of the front side of their Permanent Resident card or proof of issuance of an I-551. Applicants for permanent residency must submit a copy of their I-485 indicating that an application to adjust status to permanent resident is pending with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. 6. Letters of Recommendation Graduate applicants should provide three recommendations from individuals who are familiar with your academic achievement and potential. If you have been out of school for a number of years and are unable to contact former professors, you may submit non-academic references (e.g., employers). Please be aware that TAMU does not automatically contact the references you may have listed on your ApplyTexas application. Applicants to certain majors may access the electronic letter of recommendation system available via the Applicant Information System (AIS) through the Howdy! Portal (http://howdy.tamu.edu) or at http://applicant.tamu.edu. Applicants to CPSY, EPSY, SPSY, EDTC, EDAD, and EHRD are advised to contact their department for instruction on submitting recommendations.

7. Statement of Purpose or Essay Applicants are required to submit a Statement of Purpose. This may be accomplished by completing the Essay portion of the Apply Texas application online at www.applytexas.org. Applicants who prefer to send the Statement of Purpose separately may do so by submitting it in a word document format.

Steps between Being Admitted & Registering for Classes Our goal is to make this process easier by explaining the steps you need to take between being admitted and getting registered for your classes. As an international student, there are many preparations you will need to make prior to your arrival at the university. Several departments may be involved in this process and we will provide links that will direct you to their website where you will find additional information.

Checklist for International Graduate: 1. Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) For information about obtaining your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20), or to track the progress of the processing of your I-20, click http://international.tamu.edu/iss/people/newstudents.asp.

2. International Student Check-In and Orientation Check-in and Orientation is mandatory for incoming international students and must be completed prior to your being allowed to register. 3. New Graduate Student Orientation The New Graduate Student Orientation is a university-wide program offered to all incoming graduate students. It will provide a terrific overview of what you can expect at Texas A&M University - both as a student and as a resident of “Aggieland.” Orientation will also offer you a chance to meet campus leaders, administrators, and fellow graduate students. 6. Housing Options Texas A&M University offers shuttle bus transportation for a large area in the surrounding Bryan/College Station community. 7. Off-Campus Survival Manual This annually-updated manual provides information and resources beneficial to all new Aggies! 8. English Language Proficiency Texas A&M University requires students from other countries to demonstrate their ability to speak, write, and understand the English language. There are two levels of English Proficiency Status for graduate students: English Proficiency Verified and English Proficiency Certified. An English Proficiency Certification is required, by the State of Texas, before a graduate student is eligible to serve as a Graduate Assistant-Teaching, or any other position considered to be a teaching position (e.g., instructor, lecturer, etc.). All other students must be either English Proficiency Verified or English Proficiency Certified. English Proficiency Verification can be achieved by presenting:

a. A TOEFL score of at least 213 computer-based [cBT] (80 internet-based [iBT], 550 paper-based [pBT]), or b.

An IELTS score of at least 6.0 overall band, or

c.

A GRE verbal score of at least 400, or

d.

A GMAT verbal score of at least 22, or

e.

Obtaining a US Bachelor's or Master's degree through study solely in the US

Individual colleges may choose to establish minimum TOEFL standards that exceed the University minimum for English Proficiency Verification. Scores from TOEFL examinations administered more than two years before submission of the application for admission shall not be eligible for English Proficiency Verification. English Proficiency Certification can be achieved by: f.

Scoring at least 80 on each of the six sections of the English Language Proficiency Examination (ELPE), or

g.

Obtaining grades of A or B in English Language Institute (ELI) courses at the 300 level or higher, or

h.

Requesting alternative certification by the Office of Graduate Studies. Students who have received a baccalaureate degree following four years of study at an accredited U.S. institution will qualify for English Proficiency Certification under this alternative.

International students who fail to attain a score of at least 80 on ONE of the six sections but attain a score of 80 or more on the other sections, may appeal their results. Such students should contact their departmental graduate advisor for further information. Graduate students who have completed an equivalent English training program at an institution other than Texas A&M may request English Proficiency Verification or Certification. Verification or Certification on this basis is requested through the Departmental Graduate Advisor. The student should provide the Departmental Graduate Advisor with documentation to support their Verification or Certification. If the department concurs with the request, the Department Graduate Advisor will submit a letter, recommending and requesting Verification or Certification and documentation, to the Office of Graduate Studies. The Office of Graduate Studies will determine on a case-by-case basis whether Verification or Certification is granted. 10. Financial Resources International applicants who are accepted must submit evidence of their ability to support themselves and any accompanying dependents before a Certificate of Eligibility can be issued. For information about the amount and type of evidence that must be submitted, visit the ISS website at http://international.tamu.edu/iss/checkin_orientation/resources_arrival.asp. On this website, you will find an Estimated Expenses Sheet to guide you.

11. Transfer-In Form An international student who is accepted to the University and who has attended another school in the United States (language school, college, or university) will receive a Transfer-In Form (TIF) with the acceptance letter. This form describes the student's immigration status for the semester immediately before enrolling at Texas A&M University. It also prompts the current school to release the student to Texas A&M by entering a release date in the federal government's SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) database. The TIF needs to be received and processed by the International Student Services (ISS) Office before an international student can receive the Certificate of Eligibility. Immigration Information International Student Services (ISS) issues a Certificate of Eligibility, I–20s for F–1 visa holders and DS-2019s for J-1 visa holders. ISS also provides information for international students about which immigration status is the most appropriate for them while attending Texas A&M University.
