FACULTAD DE HUMANIDADES EARLY ENGLISH TEACHING PRACTICE Vise II 2009 TEAM TEACHING STAGE Name of student teacher: Elvira Saa Espinoza Name of School: Colegio Patmos Number of students: 33 Date: 20 de Junio Class: 1º Medio Task 1: For the following questions describe as accurately as you can the type of work performed as the guide teacher assistant: 1. What kind of activity did you perform the first time your guide teacher asked for your help? How long did it take? I helped the teacher observing the students and answering their questions during a test, it lasted 2 hours. 2. What were the students doing before you started helping out? Who gave the instructions, you or your guide teacher? They were wondering who I was and what was I doing there, after the teacher introduced me they started asking questions related to the test. The teacher gave the instructions and told them I was there to help her and them with their doubts. 3. How did the students react? Describe the atmosphere of the room and the levels of engagement in the room. Some of them reacted in a good way because they already knew me when I was a student there, some reacted in a bad way because I was going to help the teacher to avoid them cheating on the test. The atmosphere was odd because most of them hadn’t studied for the test so they were kind of desperate and the levels of engagement were very friendly among them. 4. What other assignments were asked you to do? How often? During that class my only assignment was to rearrange the seating, observe the students and help them with their doubts.
5. What activities or resources did you propose? Were they used? How effective were they? I proposed to watch a film based in a real life story with social content for the class, the teacher said it was ok with her and she asked me to lend her the movie so she could watch it first. The activity hasn’t been done yet, but I think we will do it next time we watch a film with the class. 6. Were you asked to prepare any kind of special audio visual material for the required assignments? How did the student like it? I haven’t been asked for that yet, but the teacher suggested me to get a copy of the class workbook so I can know what they are working on and give ideas or material for activities. 7. Did your guide teacher provide feedback on your performance in the classroom? How often? How did you react? My teachers told me I was a great help for them because some students require special attention that sometimes the teacher can’t give in order to keep up with the lesson activities. I felt very proud of it and told them I was happy of being helpful.
