Okay. Thank you. This statement's being taperecorded. Does this meet your approval?

Taylor

Yes.

Arnold

I'm taking this statement in reference to the events that occurred on 08/20/2008; uh, and they occurred during a PRP football practice. Were you at practice that day?

Taylor

Yes sir.

Arnold

Okay. Please describe the events of August 20, 2008 from the beginning to the end of practice. What I mean by that is just tell me what, how practice started and what happened through the course of the practice.

Taylor

Okay. We stretched; then we did like it's, uh, like team. Then we went and got a drink of water. Went to end indi', indi', went to individuals. After that, I got some water. Then we did individuals again. When and get water. Then we did team. Went to get some more water. That's when we ran. Uh, we ran like every day after practice. That's nothing new.

Arnold

Right.

That's pretty typical for football

Page 3 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

players. Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Okay. Uh, so how do, how are water breaks usually given? Uh, to the whole team? To individuals or to groups, or how is it…

Taylor

Play. Uh, end, end of play. Like after the first team, we do the whole team. Then, uh, we do individuals, and we do like the, each group that you in.

Arnold

Okay. So you do 'e in groups or…

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

…individuals. Uh, and on, on that day, how many water breaks did you take? Do you remember?

Taylor

It was probably like six or seven. No about four or five.

Arnold

About four or five? normal for a practice?

Taylor

I mean, yeah.

Arnold

Good. Uh, so you said you had a water break and then, then you all started running. What happened during that water break, after that last water break, what did practice consist of?

Taylor

Obviously running.

Arnold

And is that sprints? What do you call sprints?

Taylor

Sprints. Like…

Okay.

Is that pretty

Page 4 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

Arnold

Do you all call it anything else?

Taylor

No. Regular sprints.

Arnold

Sprints. Okay What are the sprints consist of?

Taylor

Uh, one up and back.

Arnold

One up and back?

Taylor

Up back; up back.

Arnold

Up back; up back. Okay. And that's sideline to sideline? Not the full length of the field, right?

Taylor

Sideline to sideline.

Arnold

Okay. And that's one?

Taylor

Uh-huh.

Arnold

Okay. Uh, and why were you guys runnin' sprints at this time?

Taylor

Uh, because people wasn't hustlin' back because…

Arnold

And did your coach say that, or everybody else say that?

Taylor

No.

Arnold

You just knew it? You just saw it, or how did, how did you know it was…

Taylor

I was, I just seen it, whatever. That happens some times, but…

Page 5 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

Arnold

Yeah. When you get tired, it's part of it.

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Uh, what group do you run sprints in? The big guys or the little guys?

Taylor

Little guys.

Arnold

And how many did your group run, you think?

Taylor

Probably like ten. Somethin' like that.

Arnold

So around ten?

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Uh, now, do you take off your pad, your helmet and your pads when you run, or do you run in full gear?

Taylor

It would probably like, it depends if it's hot that day in the morning…. If it's hot then we don't.

Arnold

Okay.

Taylor

If it's not, we run in full gear.

Arnold

So what did y'all run in that day?

Taylor

Both.

Arnold

Both? Okay. How many did you run before you had to take off some of your gear, you think?

Taylor

I think we ran like six of 'em. No, not six. Five. Half of that. Five.

Page 6 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

Arnold

Okay. And how many after that, then?

Taylor

Five.

Arnold

How long do you think totally you guys were runnin' sprints?

Taylor

Uh…

Arnold

I mean, it's hard to guess 'cause you don't wear a watch. I know that. But what do you…

Taylor

Uh, 12.

Arnold

Twelve what? How many total?

Taylor

How many total?

Arnold

No. No. No. How long? I mean…

Taylor

Oh. Probably like 30 minutes.

Arnold

30 minutes? Okay. Did you or anybody else on your team try to get a water break during those sprints?

Taylor

No.

Arnold

Did anybody get denied water?

Taylor

No.

Arnold

Okay. Could you see the whole team, or just your group?

Taylor

The whole team. The whole team was runnin' up. We run sprints, the whole team was up.

Arnold

Okay. So everybody lines up, and everybody

Page 7 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

goes over back, over back? Taylor

Like the big guys… The little guys run first, then the big guys run.

Arnold

Okay. So you just alternated, essentially?

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Okay. Now, who do you know that did get ill that day?

Taylor

That did get what?

Arnold

Get ill, or get sick?

Taylor

Max and, uh, Antonio.

Arnold

Antonio? Okay. Do you know both of them, or either one of 'em?

Taylor

I know both of 'em.

Arnold

Okay. And what happened when Max got sick? In what part of the sprints was it?

Taylor

It was the very last one, I believe.

Arnold

Okay. Do you know what happened to him?

Taylor

I just seen 'im pass out.

Arnold

Okay. And what about Antonio?

Taylor

He just… He didn't pass out. He just had heavy breathing.

Arnold

What point was that?

Page 8 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

Taylor

Uh, like on the second to the last one that we did.

Arnold

So it was right before Max, then. And then you all stopped for that, right?

Taylor

WE stopped after Max did.

Arnold

Right. But what I'm sayin', was this… Antonio got sick before Max did. Is that correct? That's the way I understood you to tell me that.

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Heavy breathing on the second to the last one, and Max passed out on the last one.

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Okay. Good enough. Uh, have you personally seen anybody or heard of any, uh, teammates being injured or quitting the team?

Taylor

No.

Arnold

No one's been injured on purpose or anything like that, or…

Taylor

No.

Arnold

Has anybody influenced you in any way, uh, to withhold or change any of the facts that occurred on that day?

Taylor

No.

Arnold

Nobody's told you not to say anything or to say something specifically or anything?

Page 9 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

Taylor

No.

Arnold

Okay. Is everything you're telling me truthful?

Taylor

Yes sir.

Arnold

Uh, did you hear Coach… Who, who's the coach that makes, makes, that in charge of you guys are runnin'? Which coach is it?

Taylor

All of 'em.

Arnold

All of 'em.

Taylor

Uh-huh.

Arnold

Is there one that, that leads it or… Who told you guys that day you were gonna run because you were slackin' off, or because you were, uh, being lazy?

Taylor

We didn't run 'cause we were slackin' off. We were runnin' 'cause we like runnin' every day in practice.

Arnold

Right. But didn't you say that, uh… I know I wrote that somewhere. That you guys were, uh… Yeah. Were not hustling?

Taylor

Yeah. But that's part of the reason for that.

Arnold

Right. And I understand. And, and it might be condition, too.

Taylor

Yeah.

Arnold

Kill two birds in one stone. But you said that

Page 10 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

people were not hustling. So did, did, what did, which coach told you guys you're gonna run at that point? Taylor

Uh, I can't remember that.

Arnold

Can't remember? Okay.

Taylor

No.

Arnold

So who blew, who's blowin' the whistle when you guys took off running sprints? Who was blowin' the whistle?

Taylor

Coach Stenson, like always.

Arnold

He does that every day, then?

Taylor

Right.

Arnold

And he's the head coach, correct?

Taylor

Yes sir.

Arnold

Okay. Uh, and there other coaches… Obviously, you have a lot of other coaches out there. All the other coaches were out there, weren't they?

Taylor

Yes sir.

Arnold

Okay. Good. And when Max or Antonio, either one of 'em, fell out, or had trouble breathing, did someone go to them right away and help 'em?

Taylor

Yes sir.

Arnold

Perfect. Okay. Anything else you wanta add

Page 11 of 11 Statement: Jaque N. Taylor / Case #08197(B) Date: September 9, 2008

or anything else you can think of that you wanta ask me about or tell me about? Taylor

Uh, no sir.

Arnold

Okay. That will conclude this interview, and the time is now 1:08 pm.
