Congratulations to the incoming President Roselind Gan, ACS, CL and her Executive Committee for the new term 2008-2009 with her Presidential Theme “To Inspire and be Inspired“. Tawau Toastmasters Club always has a special place in my heart because I had spent four years of sweet memory with the Club. The time which I had spent with the Club was immensely fruitful and enjoyable as I climbed up the ladder of Toastmaster Educational Achievements. I am feeling really delightful to be able to address the Club at this auspicious occasion. The International Presidential Theme for the new term 2008-2009 is “The Courage to Conquer“. District 51 and Division K have also adopted the same theme. I am calling upon each and every toastmaster of DIVISION K to harbour this theme in their mind right from the beginning of the new term. You have taken the first step by coming forward to serve as CLUB OFFICERS for the new term and this clearly indicates your courage to conquer. I am sure you will find there are lots of happenings which need your enduring courage to conquer and at the same time create good learning opportunities to better your public speaking and leadership skills. At the end of the term, you will just wonder how did you have the courage to do all that? Of course, only you yourself will have the answer. Henry Ford said “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty, anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young “ So fellow toastmasters, lets all take up the courage to conquer the MISSION OF TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL by walking together in this journey of learning opportunities to develop communication and leadership skills which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) recognition is the greatest honour that can be earned by a member of Toastmasters International. The DTM award is given only to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and communication skills and who have used these skills to help others in their self-development efforts. Attaining this award was not an easy task. Lee Chye Ewe has completed both the leadership and communication tracks, earning many awards to reach DTM status. These accomplishments have given Chye Ewe a greater perspective of the value of being a good communicator and an effective leader.
