At the request of Lt Col Jacobsmeyer, NORAD US Space Command, Directorate of Analysis (NSP/AN), the 84th RADES was tasked to provide radar data information on tracks of interest for 11 Sept 2001. The particular tracks of interest originated from Otis and Langley Air Force Base's between 1300 and 1415 Zulu. 1. Description of products. The 84 RADES is providing the following products: a. According to Satellite Tool Kit simulation using data obtained from 84th RADES 1. "Close Approach" #1: AA-11 (WTC-1) passed 'in front' of UA-175 at approx 12:38:11: Win Range between the two aircraft was about 16km at an azimuth of about 315 deg and -4.6 degrees elevation (from UA-175 looking towards AA-11) 2. "Close Approach" #2: UA-175 (WTC-1) passed 'in front' of UA-93 (Pennsylvania crash) at approx 12:49:45. Min Range between the two aircraft was about 28 km at an azimuth of 348 deg and 8. 9 degrees elevation (UA-93 looking towards UA-175) Let me know if there's any additional info you need. Vr,

Note that UA 175 first intercepts AA 11, then UA 93. The enclosed excel file (below) shows the actual time/distance between aircraft, according to our analysis. It confirms that UA 175 was within 30 km of both aircraft. The specific times for each close approach are:

«0bserver.ppt» «Observer.xls» Cherie, Here is the Spreadsheet for the military aircraft (C-130?) near the PA site. It was named "Pentagon Observer" because it flew near the Pentagon after the crash. We will try to get the rest of the Langley Fighters to you by Monday afternoon. Those tracks have to be broken out and put onto a Spreadsheet. Not hard to do but a little time consuming, and they are doing a few other tasks right now. Just so you know, our squadron does have a 24-hour response phone number. If something comes up, and you need a product quickly, you can call our stand by Team Chief at (801) 791-6668. If you tell them who you are, what you need, (and if it's going to someone like the CINC, tell them that also) then we can be paged to come in and complete whatever you need. Small requests like the ones you have been giving me are fine, and I can back brief the Commander on what you need. Cherie, Attached is the Spreadsheet with the entire flight of the Langley fighters, and also a PowerPoint slide showing the route. (They flew for quite awhile) There were 3 aircraft and for the most part stayed together, or in the same general vicinity. One of the problems when they fly close to each other, is that their codes start overlapping or decode incorrectly. When this happens, it is difficult to break out each aircraft as a separate track. If this Spreadsheet will work for what you need, let me know. If not, we can try a little harder to separate each aircraft. CLASSIFICATION:UNCLASSIFIED These notes are for the 'New Overview' MPG. Rather than double-clicking on the file to play it, open up the Media Player under the Accessories menu from the Start menu. Using this media player gives you more control. You can reverse the motion as well as speed it up by dragging the time indicator bar; also, the video stays open when it's finished playing. Here is a list of actions which take place in the video corresponding to the NORAD timeline of events.
0759 - AA11 Takes off from Boston: AA11 marker and track is red - this is where the video starts. Note the thickness of the track which signifies that the transponder is on. 0814 - UA 175 takes off from Boston: UA 175 marker and track is blue - track is thick signifying transponder is transmitting (Note: graphic track remains thick throughout flight transponder remained ON) 0820 - AA 11 IFF Transponder off: AA 11 thick red track goes to thin red track AA 77 takes off from Dulles: AA 77 marker and track is green. Track is thick for transponder on 0825 - AA 11 Alters course 0840 - FAA Boston reports possible hijack of AA 11: "Boston FAA" and "NEADS" labels appear in yellow; graphical "pulsed beam" flashes momentarily
The following 2 events occur nearly simultaneously on the video. 0842 - UA 93 takes off from Newark: UA 93 marker and track is cyan. Thick track for transponder on. 0843 - Boston FAA reports possible hijack of of UA 175: Pulsed beam flashes again
0846 - Otis Air National Guard issues scramble order: "OTIS" label appears in white AA 11 Impact on WTC 1: Target symbol appears at impact location 0850 - AA 77 Transponder off and radar contact is lost: AA 77 Track and marker disappear (18 minutes, 51 seconds - no radar contact) 0852 - UA 175 Alters course towards WTC Otis fighters airborne: White triangle markers and tracks representing total of 6 aircraft - 2 aircraft on each flight leg.)
0902 - UA 175 Impact on WTC 2: Target symbol appears at impact location 0909 - AA 77 radar contact regained: Thin track signifies transponder OFF 0924 - FAA reports possible hijack of AA 77: "Wash FAA" label appears and pulsed beam flashed between Wash FAA and NEADS. (Note: our analyst called NEADS to find out which FAA center made the call. NEADS recollection is that it was most likely the Wash FAA that made the call; however, their were many players on the line by that time.) Langley scramble order issued: "LANGLEY" label appears in white
0930 - Langley fighters airborne: total of 3 aircraft in formation represented by white triangle marker and single track UA 93 reverses course towards Washington DC: obvious from video. (Note the simultaneity of both UA 93 and the Langley fighters turning towards DC) 0937 - AA 77 impact on Pentagon: Target symbol appears at impact location. 0940 - UA 93 Transponder off: Cyan track goes thin 0946 - UA 93 Radar contact lost: UA 93 marker and track disappear (14 minutes, 37 seconds of no radar contact) 1002 - UA 93 Radar contact regained: Marker and track reappear - but for only a few seconds. It is not obvious because we regained radar contact for LESS than one minute before impact; however, the transponder was ON for the last 2 data points (represents an amount of time between 12 and 20 seconds). 1003 - UA 93 Crash: Target symbol appears at impact location

The primary objective of the conference is a technical exchange and training in the intricacies of using the software as a modeling tool.
