Forty-five minutes before the aircraft was due to land in Washington, the pilot announced that the plane was being diverted to Halifax. He explained to foe passengers that U.S. airspace was closed because of terrorist attacks. \d sfaedid not detect any additional security procedures on the aircraft accompanying the announcement;:::::; . [told me that as the plane was being boarded a man was taken away from the terminal area by guards. She heard the individual screaming, but could not see what was going on. She was told by eyewitnesses that a man.'was! being taken away by "authorities." I liridicated that she and other passengers believed that the individual had been taken from the plane they Were boarding, because it was the only plane readying for take-off in the concourse. She cannot confirm, however, that the individual was definitely on the aircraft;

I [said that her flight landed in Halifax at around three in the afternoon. The passengers remained on board until 2 a.m. the following day at which time they were taken by bus to a military base where they spent the night before returning to Washington. I I said she was not interviewed nor did she detect any screening of herself or other passengers after the flights were grounded in Halifax. I
