This flight departed Gate D26 of the IAD mid-field terminal at 8:09 am, and was airborne at 8:21 a.m. The aircraft type was a Boeing 757, Number of selectee passengers is unknown at this time; ramp personnel noticed two selectee checked bags on the ramp. One non-selectee passenger (Thomas Havenner) did not board due to confusion of gate location. This flight consisted of fifty-three passengers and seven flight crew members, which totaled sixty persons on this flight There was no cargo being transported on this aircraft. 1,789 pounds of U.S. mail was on board. There were a total of thirty-five checked bags. It is presumed that this flight crashed into the Pentagon located in Washington, D.C. at approximately 10:06 a.m. Additional information is continuously being gathered on each of the four incidents described above. Post-Event Activities: Boston Civil Aviation Security Field Office (CASFO): Boston Federal Security Manager (FSM) and CASFO continue to meet with air carrier station personnel to address screening performance. Soon after hijacking, CASIFO personnel tested the screening equipment at the screening checkpoints at issue: At screening checkpoints B-4 and B-5, the X-rays units passed af J B-4 was last certified October 20,2000 and B-5 was last certified April 20,2001. The X-ray unit and walk-through metal detectors at screening checkpoint C-3 passed. The equipment at this screening checkpoint was last certified September 7, 2001. No settings have been changed on any of the equipment since they were certified. At screening checkpoint A-l, operated by United, the X-rays units passed a f _\Two of the Metal detectors were certified June 20,2001 and one was certified July 10,2001. All stickers were current (i.e., no modifications or adjustments regarding the sensitivity were apparent). Both x-rays are TIP-equipped (i.e., Threat Image Projection). The CASFU is working to get TIP downloads. There are no CCTV capabilities in this concourse, The FBI is leading the investigation. The FBI is not coordinating their activities with the FAA. The CASFU is in possession of screening training records, and a list of screeners that were on duty. Washington Dulles CASFO: The CASFO is working wholly in tandem with the FBI. All interviews and record reviews are being jointly conducted with this agency. The East Security Checkpoint and the West Security Checkpoint were the only passenger and carry-on baggage checkpoints for the processing of American Airlines Flight 77. Both of these checkpoints are operated by United Airlines, under the contracting agreement with Argenbright Security Company. The daily equipment logs for the X-ray and metal detector units for these two checkpoints have been reviewed and have been found satisfactory. Equipment certification on both the metal detectors, with the operational test piece (OTP), and the X-ray units, with the! been conducted. The CASFO agents founcj jCurrent and correct metal detector calibration sensitivities were noted on all metal detector unit stickers. Argenbright screener training records have not indicated any discrepancies: Full confirmation of this is still pending. A CASFO agent has reviewed the CCTV camera tapes for these checkpoint activities, and no unusual behavior or screener discrepancies have been noted. The filming is of fair quality. The FAA CASFO has copies of these tapes.
