Team 3: In order to avoid any incompatibility problems (and since this is so short), here are my minutes form tonight's meeting. Have a great week! See you in June! --Alexis Workplan Meeting with Commissioners May 21, 2003 The Commissioners brought up two main points regarding the Team 3 workplan: * John Lehman stressed the importance of Team 3's report including a pre-1993 preamble. This preamble should be a complement, but not distract from, the central policy core of the 9-11 story. Lehman expressed a concern that, in reviewing the background to 9-11, Team 3 look beyond al-Qa'eda to the broader movement from which al-Qa'eda emerged. He mentioned a number of specific examples: the assassination of Sadat, 1973; Hezbollah's role in the bombing of the US Embassy in Lebanon, 1983; and funding of madrasas in the US. Philip Zelikow reinforced the point that the Team's core focus should be on the period 1998-September 20th, 2001. * Lee Hamilton noted the need for Team 3 to put together a calendar as part of its workplan.
