Chris Kojm Kevin Scheid Gordon Lederman June 3, 2004 Congressional Hearings on Terrorism
Per your request, set forth below are the number of hearings on terrorism held by the Armed Services and the Foreign Relations / International Relations Committees between January 1, 1998 and September 11, 2001. All hearings are of the full committee unless otherwise noted. I have detailed separately (1) the number of hearings directly on terrorism, and (2) the number of hearings that could have covered terrorism in a significant manner. Please let me know if you would like me to look at the transcripts of the latter hearings to ascertain whether they covered terrorism directly. I have excluded from the list below any hearings featuring general briefings from the DCI, DDCI, and NIC. The titles listed below reflect my editing of the titles (e.g., by shortening "weapons of mass destruction" to "WMD"). I did not materially alter the titles (e.g., by adding "terrorism" to a title). As we discussed, please note that many of the hearings followed terrorist attacks, particularly the Cole attack. Please let me know if you would like any additional information.
