Welcome back! I hope you had a restful break. I am looking forward to getting to know and working with each of my students this year. I have put together the following so that all my expectations are clear. Teacher: Señora Rickwood Class: Spanish 1, Spring 2007 Objectives: Students will learn to read, write, speak and listen in Spanish. Students will also become familiar with the cultures of certain Spanish speaking countries through exposure to current events, culture, and geography. Speaking and listening activities are as important as written in this class!!! Attendance/Participation: Attendance and participation is a very important part of succeeding in a Foreign Language class. Missing even a few days of class can put you very far behind both in grades and missing information. All students are expected to actively participate in and all activities and discussions. Learning from practice (and from mistakes) is essential to building foreign language skills. Work missed because of cutting can not be made up. Materials: In order for students to excel in this class, they should bring their materials to class every day. By Monday, August 9 all students are expected to have all materials needed for Spanish. Text: Venconmigo –Homework and class work can come from either the text or workbook which will be distributed to students in class. Books should be returned in the same condition as issued. Binder: Each student will need to keep a 3 ring binder, loose leaf paper, and 4 dividers to divide it into sections of notes, handouts, homework/class work and roleplay sheets. Note Cards: Part of the grade for this class will be based on completion of flash cards for the vocabulary in each unit. You may do these on note cards; or just use cut up paper. The flash cards must be of a reasonable size and written neatly. Students will not receive full credit if there are more than three vocabulary words on each card. Torn strips of paper do not make acceptable flash cards!! USB/Flash Drive: Students who are issued a Laptop must back up ALL SCHOOL FILES on a USB memory device of some kind. It is the student’s responsibility to acquire and maintain this device. Help: If you ever have any trouble understanding and need extra help, let me know. I stay late after school. Do not hesitate to ask for help. Classroom Procedures: These procedures are designed to create a disruption free environment where everyone can learn. 1. Respect: respect the teacher, your fellow students, yourself, and the property of others. If you need to use anything from the teacher’s desk, table, or overhead cart ask permission. 2. Be Prepared: Be in your seat when the bell rings with necessary materials and homework. 3. Follow Computer Rules: Follow all school and classroom rules as they apply to you. Be prepared, save it where you can find it, stay on the teacher’s sites, ask to use computers, 45*. 4. Orderly Behavior and Good Attitude: Stay in your seat and work quietly unless the teacher indicates otherwise. Talking is only appropriate when it is part of the lesson and when students wait their turn. Students should raise their hand if they need to leave their seat for any reason. Come to class with a positive attitude and be willing to work. 5. You may leave the room only in case of emergency: “Emergencies” will be defined by the teacher.** 6. Food, drink, and chewing gum belong elsewhere: If brought into the classroom they will be confiscated, regardless of what they are and whether they have been opened. **Restroom Policy: Students should go to the bathroom before they come to class. If a student absolutely must go to the bathroom during class, the student will make up the missed class time for 10 minutes after school later that week. This is not a disciplinary action, but class time is valuable and missed class time must be made up. Consequences for not following procedures: 1st time: Warning. 2nd time: Fifteen minutes after school detention. (24 hr notice) 3rd time: Half hour after school detention, possible work detail, and letter or call home. 4th time: Referral to appropriate administrator. Computer Consequences: I reserve the right to take students off of the computer in my class for any amount of time if computer procedures are not followed.
